| My niece makes me furious!!! My niece has a 10 month old black lab female. She also has two children (5 mos. and 2 yrs.) The poor dog spends 99% of her time in the dark hot garage. She gets very little exercise and is overweight for her age......she also has not been spayed, and only has the shots the breeder gave her!!! My niece has had her since she was 8 weeks old. I go and take the dog as often as I can......she very needy and clingy when she is with me (understandably)! I am just so frustrated I could scream!!! tonight I went over there to let her out, because they went to a concert this afternoon, and won't be back till late tonight.....they hadn't made any arrangements for anyone to let her out, I knew they were gone, so I went over. They won't listen to reason about finding her a new home.....this poor baby deserves better than she is getting!! She is a beautiful, smart girl....not a mean bone in her body!! I would take her, but I don't have the room. Don't know if anyone will read this, but just needed to vent!!

| That is just so sad. Why do they even want a dog? I had neighbors like that back home; medium size dog (think cocker spaniel) - spent all of her time in the backyard or sleeping alone in their cold and unfinished basement. Never allowed to be part of the family. It broke my heart. Never taken for a walk, etc. It's good of you to spend some time with her; it'sprobably the only attention she gets.

| That's unfortunate. Sometimes people are ignorant and just delivering some knowledge helps...but clearly your niece doesn't have an excuse as you've served as a model to her on how to raise a dog. This is sad, but not uncommon. I feel guilty when I don't walk Teddy 2 hours a day (I live in an apt so he doesn't get much play time poor guy)

| That is so sad. I am glad that you try to go over and give the poor baby some attention. Poor little thing.

| Poor little girl... Some people don't deserve to own pets.

| this makes me mad. i know so many people that do this same thing. get a dog and don't care for it like they should. people think they are just things that you put up on a shelf and take down only when it's convenient. stupid if you ask me. |

| I'm sorry your niece is this way. I know it's probably a touchy subject with her, and I'm glad you go over and take the poor dog for walks. If she wasn't family, I would call the humane society, but you're in a difficult situation since she's family. The only solution I can think of is to maybe keep after your niece until she lets you find the dog another home, but it sounds like you've tried that and it hasn't worked. Or another thing you might consider is taking the dog yourself, and then finding her another home. Poor thing. No dog deserves to be treated that way. Some people have no business owning pets of any kind. They just don't seem to care and the poor dog is the one who suffers.

| What good news! Now she'll not only get out of that awful garage, but she'll have a friend to play with too. That is wonderful!

| Well, the only thing we can do is try and make a difference, I guess! Nova is all set up for her first play date this afternoon. I will take her to run a couple of times this weekend, then next week, she will go to her new (doggy daycare....my niece in law)! I am praying that things work out, I'm sure they will

| My stepson and his wife are the same with dogs, they get them knowing they are really just to busy to give them the attention they need. My daughter ended up taking the last dog they had, a lab mix, she has all sorts of issues, but at least she is now in a loving home. I think some folks think, well we have kids now, better get a dog |

| While it's wonderful that someone has stepped up to help this poor doggy out----I hate the fact that your niece is getting off scot-free and is ducking her responsibility to the dog This just perpetuates the situation, imho
