| Someone stole my garbage! My DH sat three full cans out at night. The next morning one can was empty. The whole trash bag was missing..... WTHeck! I blew it off until I just read an article in our paper about people who go around in the nighttime hours throwing garbage bags in their vehicle. They take them home to root through the contents looking for anything they may/can use to commit identity theft! All he had to do was back into my driveway and I would have loaded up his trunk......I hope he got the bag with all the cat poop in it! Don't throw anything in your trash with your name on it!

| OMG!!! WHAT is this world coming to???? Seriously!!! Geezzz.... Luckily (I guess) we bring our own trash to the dump so it never gets left out like that. But that is unbelievable to me!!!! Last night I was at the salon getting my nails done and they had the news on. I just sat in shock. I don't watch it anymore because of the disgustingness that goes on in this world. Of course I was horrified, people killing people, beating people, dog hoarding, political scandals.. everything is over drugs or money. Very very sad!

| This happened to us about 5 years ago. My husband rolled the trash can down to the end of the driveway, for pick up. During the night it disaapeared, the whole garbage can. We called to see if it had been picked up and it wasn't so we reported it. Later I remembered seeing several teenage boys walking down the side walk, when he took it down (we don't live in a subdivision). I told my husband about this and I thought they had something to do with it. He rode down the road and there was our garbage and garbage can waiting on us. We were afraid of identity theft. I don't ever throw personal info in the garbage. Teenage prank.

| I get worried putting it in the garbage or recycling-that would be a clean, easy find. If I don't have time to thoroughly destroy it I save it & will burn it in the fall.

| I've had my identity stolen so I know how horrible it is. I'm sorry this happened to you!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I shred my papers because of things like this. Then I put the shredded papers in a plastic bag and put lots of really WET garbage on top of it. I figure if they are going to take the time to piece together wet, sticky confetti, then there was probably nothing I could have done to keep it from them any way. I also don't put the cans out at night. I wait until first thing in the morning, just in case. Surprisingly, there is nothing illegal about someone rooting through your garbage.

| Oh, my goodness, I have heard of this. That's why I shred critical things with personal info. Can't they find out your name just by your name and looking on the internet or the reverse directories available? As long as you don't have credit card info, SS#'s or anything like that, why shred junk mail that just has your name and address on it?

| How horrible! I cannot believe what this world has come to... Thankfully we burn anything important and put our garbage out the morning of garbage day rather than the night before. This might motivate us to get a shredder though! Geez...

| I shred everything. Also be careful with catalogs. Your name and address will be on the cover but also check inside, usually in the middle, is an order form with your name and address on it too. We have to do whatever we can to stay safe. What a sad world we live in. |

| Wow, I'm surprised some others on here have had this happen to them......I have thrown out those pre-approved credit card solicitations unopened. I hope none of those where in there..... I probably should have called the sheriff just so they would watch for this kind of activity going on at night......

| Yep, shred everything that has any type of information on it! I just shred the whole pre-approved applications. I don't want anyone to be able to track down a company that is offering it. I worry that since I had the application that they can still initiate a credit card.
