| They want you to give it to them, but it is your account and you don't have to give it to anyone. I never did.

| Donna, I'm not sure about the $5,000 spending limit, but I upgraded my account to a Premier account years ago. I opened a seperate bank account in a different bank that the family uses so that the two accounts couldn't be linked. I have had great luck using paypal and feel as comfortable as one can using the www. to do business. I have a feeling that the "spending limit" is part of the new IRS laws that our DPO blessed us with. In this particular case the "D" does NOT stand for dear! | How is your account set up, do you use cash or do you pay with a credit card? I have a credit card on the account and I didn't think there is a limit.

| I can't buy a thing using paypal because they say I have reached my spending limit and I need to give them my bank account #. They said they would deposit something in my account first just to see if it's a valid account. I will never give them my account #. Cindy, did you open a new account just to give them? Did this happen to you to?

Yes, I did open a separate account just for Paypal. I upgraded my account because ??? hummmm it's been so long ago I forgot. I would never give them an account # that is active for more than just paypal. It's easy to open an account and them make deposits into that account as needed for "spending $$". If you go this route REMEMBER - the new account needs to be a completely separate bank from any accounts that you use for your personal business -- | |

| Just deposit cash. I think what is happening is that you have to upgrade to a Premier account. Paypal doesn't really care as long as they get their fees.... but the FEDS do care. You might be running a $$ laundry through your paypal account since you are such a big spender. |

| Paypal actually has a Customer Service that cares. The few times that I have called them I have had knowledgeable and courteous CS Reps assist me. |

| Yes. I have a bank account set up purely for paypal. I limit the amount of funds in the account. I would not give them access to my household bank account.

| Did you get this notice when you logged in to paypal or was it sent in an email? The reason I am asking, I received an email like this about 4 months ago and it was actually in my junk email. I was in a panic because I knew I had not spent that much total in the years that I have had paypal. I noticed something looked funny about the senders email address and felt something just wasn't right. If you already have a paypal account they have your account number already. I work in a bank and have dealt with phishing scams related to our customers and was afraid this is what was happening to me. It is a big scam that affects the banking industry also. You will get an email that looks like it comes from the bank or another reputable company and they will ask for your account number...never give this out to anyone!! The scammers also do this by phone. If someone calls and says they are from your bank, credit card company etc and they need you to verify your bank account or credit card number it is a scam. Please contact paypal and let them know about this. It may be a scam and they need to be aware of it if it is.
