| Petstores So, a good friend of mine (for the most part) continues to purchase her puppies from pet stores. First a cocker spaniel and now a little King Charles Cavalier. She is well-educated and has a great job. I just DO NOT get it. She loves her dogs and would be in it for the long haul if they got sick or anything. (She doesn't walk them but that's another story). I saw her at a swim meet this week-end and she was telling me again all about her new puppy. Since I know she KNOWS - I simply asked 'Did you support a puppy mill when you bought little Ruby"? She laughed and said yes, she did and this one came from Arkansas. Pet store in Pittsburgh. She knows what she is doing but she continues to do it. I just don't get it. She gave me some sad story that her older dog had died and the dog left behind was so depressed that she didn't have time to look for any breeder. There is no point in lecturing her because she already knows what she is doing. And she knows it is wrong - but she always finds a way to justify it. What should I have said???

| I think you need to speak from your heart and tell her how you really feel about this, no matter what she sounds like she is going to do as she wants, so I am not sure how much it would help, but maybe if she heard you speak from your heart and not in a lecturing mode- maybe she will think about it next time. Depending on how good of a friend she is, If it were me and one of my friends I would reconsider my friendship.

| It doesn't matter what you say. Some people never listen. Maybe a true picture of what these puppy mills really look like might get through to someone like her. People like her only believe what they can see.

I agree. I'd print of one of those horrible pictures I can't bare to even look at & send it to her...but it can just be very frustrating! I have boycotted things, given proof as to why, yet even intelligent members of my own family would not agree simply because it would cause a personal inconvenience. It's sad really.

| Is it just that once she sees them in the pet store she can't walk away? Or does she go to a pet store deliberately to get her dogs? My daughter came home from college for Mother's day weekend the other week. While she was here she went shopping at the local mall with a friend and of course the girls had to stop in at the pet store She said there was a little boy yorkie puppy. It's a good thing it's the end of the semester & she's broke, and loans haven't been dispersed for summer classes yet, or she might have come home with him. And, she knows better! She & her brother searched breeders all across the state to get me my pup, ZoE. But, those sweet little faces locked in cages just pull at the heartstrings.
