| ASPCA vs. Humane Society Which organization is "better"? They both say they do the same thing and they both say they're the "biggest animal welfare organization". I want to donate to the animals but I'm not sure the best place for my money to go.

| So many of these large humane society groups spend money in advertising, lobbying, and paying their own staff. I would recommend you donate to your local animal shelter. I know my local shelter loves donations of food, toys, cleaning supplies, etc. Of course they never turn down cash or volunteers either . Honestly if you want to help animals in your own area it is best to donate in your own back yard. It's so good that you are willing to donate Teresa |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | The ASPCA is more involved in direct care than HSUS. But, they both do wonderful things for animal welfare. In my opinion, the HSUS is more politically involved in the animal welfare movement and creating change. The ASPCA is a bit more subtle than HSUS. I love them both and support what they each do . Another thought is to donate to rescue, as they're at the front line of helping dogs who are very much in trouble and at risk of euthanasia. For rescue, I support Best Friends Animal Society (animal sanctuary in Utah) and Yorkie Haven Rescue. Supporting your local humane association is always good too!

Yes, it's so important to point this out...bc some people think their local humane ass'n is an extension of HSUS...and like you said, it's not. Some folks would rather not support some of HSUS's political endeavors, and that's cool, but it's good to know one can still support their local humane ass'n.

| I really like the idea of giving to rescues because they don't have as much of a political agenda. I just don't feel right giving money to an organization that is lobbying for something I don't agree with. I don't know much about either organization. The MI Humane Society - I'm not at all impressed. Wondering if it's part of the HSUS. Our local Humane Society is a horrid, dreadful place. I would sooner see an animal euthanized than end up there. I'm a huge Angell fan (although I don't know much about their political position), so I would be giving to the MSPCA, a Yorkie rescue, or a local rescue.

| Just my opinion, but these large organizations get so much money from people all over the country, so I'm with some of the others, a local shelter or rescue could probably benefit from the money more. I don't know much about the differences between ASPCA and HSUS, so I can't help in that way.

| Wow, sounds like I really don't want to support the Humane Society. I kinda figured the ASPCA was better but I just wanted to make sure. I would love to work for the ASPCA but I'm just too sensitive when it comes to animals; I would be crying every day. The only shelter I'm aware of is the OK Yorkie Rescue. I'm sure we have a local pound but I have no clue where it is... guess I should look that up. Thanks y'all!

| I stopped sending money to the Humane Society because they kept sending me items; and I felt that they should use my money for the pups not for those items. I am very uncomfortable with organizations that do that.

| I think it's wonderful that you are going to help by donating! I, personlly, like the idea of giving to my local humane society. I do this because I am big on supporting the area that I live and also because the furkids at my local shelter are so near and dear to my heart....plus, our humane society relies solely on donations. You could even donate your time to visit a few of the furkids there....they love any affection that they can get! You can't go wrong with whatever decision you make. |

| i give to westie rescue of missouri for simply the fact that they gave me Bentley and took him in despite that he's not a westie...and i wish i had a local yorkie rescue to support and help with. YTCA says we do, but everytime i try to contact them i get nowhere i think i will support YHR more and more as i have the money to give and hopefully help start a KC area chapter. i will also be doing the mokan pet partners and delta society for therapy dogs |

| I will most likely be giving my money to OK Yorkie Rescue. While reading their website, I found this site iGive - Change Online Shopping for Good and it gives a % of money to a charity of your choice every time you search and shop at websites through their website. Most of the companies I buy from are on there.
