| After a year of pain.... ....I'm finally having surgery on my knee this month. I cant wait cause hopefully i'll soon be out of pain. Since LAST January, when my knee started to hurt, I've been going to doctor after doctor to figure out what the hek was causing my knee pain. FIRST i went to an orthopedic...did the MRI, Xray...he said i was fine...gave me pain meds and sent me on my merry way. Pain continued and i went back to him and explained it wasnt going away!! He did blood tests and they determined i have severe inflamation somewhere in my body. (Gee ya think it could have been my knee perhaps? ) Anyways..he said i should go to a Rheumatologist. So I didnt even look for one locally..i said forget it...i was going into the BIG hospitals in Boston. She was great...EVERY appointment i went to her..she at least spent an hour with me going over my symptoms and trying different arthritis meds on me...since she believed this is what may be causing my pain. My last appointment with her..she was shocked i was still in pain. So she ordered another MRI. The same day i got the MRI done she called me saying there was significant damage to my meniscus. So she wanted me to see an orthopedic again. I was definitely NOT going back to the first guy i went to , so she referred me to one out of same hospital. As soon as the Orthopedic looked at my MRI...he says "holy cow..you have a huge tear in your meniscus. No wonder you are in pain. I can't believe this was missed"(he knew my first Orthopedic personally). So he scheduled me for surgery in 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to being out of pain. I HOPE and prayer that i WILL be out of pain!! I have missed out on A LOT of activity this past year cause of the pain..including wearing HIGH HEELS!! I've never had surgery before except for having my wisdom teeth out..so i'm a tad nervous!

| Sorry it took so LONG to find the problem but glad it will now be taken care of! Try to relax and think about the long term -- pain free days ahead! Will say a prayer for your successful surgery and smooth, speedy recovery! My son just had surgery on his shoulder yesterday -- he is having his worst "day after" period right now. He came through very well though and the were able to make the repairs. I have him in a Donjoy Iceman contraption right now -- fancy electric icebag! Icing your knee afterwards will help too!

| I'll be praying for you! Geez, what a "pain" all that was, LOL. It can definitely be an ordeal to find a doctor who actually tells you what is wrong with you. I'm glad you got it all figured out. My dad has been dealing with severe back pain for 2 years now. He's just been prescribed pain meds and basically told everything is 'mild'. Well.. if it's so mild, when can he not get out of bed 10 days out of every month? I feel so bad for him. He does not want to be on these medications, he wants someone to figure out what is WRONG with him, so he doesn't have to depend on meds for the rest of his life. He also has done everything doctors told him to do. MRI's, bloodwork, colonosocopy, and then *finally* a doctor suggested a CT scan on his spine, which he thought he had already had. So he got that done a few weeks ago and it came back with a TON of new info. So he's hoping it's leading to something. So he understands, like you, living with pain. I'm glad you hopefully got it resolved!

| I'm glad your pain problem was found and now will be corrected. I too was in horrible pain for two years, went to a rheumatologist and he said I wouldn't need surgery for a very long time. He tried giving me a prescription for pain meds but I wouldn't take it. I don't take medications of any type. Then I went to an orthopedic surgeon. He had some x-rays done and saw my knee was bone on bone. I was set up for surgery, and lots of different tests and such, but while doing all this a friend of mine suggested I try taking Cetyl Myristoleate. It took all the swelling and pain away and I'm walking pain free. Don't know why but it's a blessing. Of course this isn't a cure, but I'm just grateful for every day that I can walk normally and without pain. No surgery for me yet.

| You will be just fine. You will not feel anything before or during the surgery. Pain meds will help for a day after, and there will pain during therapy, but it will lesson, and before long, you will be pain free, running, jumping, and feeling great. A tear is better than a replacement. Surprised the first guy missed it. Wonder how some of these guys made it into Med School. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I will keep you in my prayers. My 25 year old dtr is going through a similar experience. Her knees keep filling up with fluid. Started with a ortho dr and was referred to a rheumatologist. She is now seeing another doctor in the same practice after 7 months of worsening problems and higher doses of meds. She had her knee drained 9 days ago, redrained today and it is already swollen back up completely. She can barely walk. They are starting her on Humera next week. Did your knee have fluid on it? I know my dtr is missing out on going out, wearing heals and just enjoying life. I hope your surgery is very successful and your recovery smooth.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Holy moly! That's insane the first guy put you through all that! I had no idea you were in so much pain. I thought you were just grumpy! Knee surgery is a piece of cake. Eddie's been through it and came out of it fine. Just make sure your master keeps you in an xpen with a padded floor so you don't hurt yourself.
