| Sad Story Happy Ending Let me start by saying the we have what my dh calls a "full house." He has forbidden me to bring any more furry kids home. (I can't wait till I retire and am home to take care of the dogs instead of letting him do it and call the shots!) Well, we were in Petsmart two weeks ago and the local humane society had a few dogs there. I was drawn to one in particular. The poor guy (a border collie mix) brought tears to my eyes and I had to turn down an isle to conceal my sobs from my dh. Of course he found me and wanted to know what I was crying about so I took him by the hand and pointed at the poor dog that was literally cowering under a table. He wouldn't look at anyone and even when the smaller dogs barked he cringed. The had found him as a stray so no one knew his story. He was about 8 months old and house trained so go figure, but it is just sad to think what he had to have gone through to behave like that. Anyway dh went over to him and was petting him. When he stopped the dog (Toby) looked up at him and the woman that was taking care of him said it was the first time he had showed interest in anyone. Than just broke both our hearts and I'll be darned if dh didn't decide right then and there that we should adopt him. We decided to go home and he could go to the shelter the following Monday to do the paperwork. I made him wait because of his insistence that we don't bring in anymore dogs I was sure he was going to change his mind and I would be damned if we went and got Toby only to return him when dh changed his mind. Toby was on my mind constantly but sure enough dh decided we couldn't afford another mouth to feed. I finally talked him in to trying to foster Toby. I didn't think anyone would adopt him given his extreme fear of EVERYTHING and maybe we could turn him around and make him more adoptable even if we couldn't keep him ourselves. But when I finally convinced him and called the shelter I found out that a family with a young boy adopted that poor guy and he was already taking treats from the little boy's hand. That was something they couldn't get him to do at the shelter. I'm so grateful that that family came along when they did! Merry Christmas Toby! |

| What a beautiful story! I was cringing, trying to imagine where you were going with Toby's story when I finally read that he's now got his very own little boy. I wish that wonderful family a very Merry Christmas.
