| Soooo sick!! :( Weds night Im doing food prep to host 20+ people for Thanksgiving at my house when I get pain in my ear. Ive had outer ear infections before and they are BAD! The pain is unbearable. So of course I wake up thanksgiving morning after a rocky night of sleep (or no sleep) to find a full blown ear infection. Did all I could to entertain guests while taking advil and holding a wet cloth to my ear all day long. By thursday night I was in tears and convinced my BF to not go to ER but got me stronger pain killers a nurse friend of mine had. They did nothing and I kept getting worse. Friday I was supposed to shop for black friday but there was NO WAY! The pain was soooo bad! Finally this morning after the 3rd night of no sleep, I got up at 6am at my wits end. I could not stop crying the pain was THAT bad. I finally told BF I would go the ER or walk in clinic, wherever, just need to get rid of the pain. So we went to the ER. I'm ALL infected! So now I am on an antibiotic, ear drops and alternating advil and pecocet pain killer treatment every 2 hours to control the pain. Thankfully I am finally not in pain anymore, although I am still all clogged up and need to take the meds to get rid of the pain, but at least I'm more comfortable. So this infection is extreme Otitis externa (or swimmer's ear). I haven't swam since like Sept. MY whole weekend was shot. Done nothing but cry, med up, sleep, cry, med up, sleep. I hope everyone else had a nice Thanksgiving and got some GREAT sales for Black Friday! On a nicer note, my 2 furry boys have not left my side all 3 days for almost nothing. They are so loving and concerned for their Mom. Too cute!

| Hope you're feeling better soon. This is not the time of year to get sick. Too much going on. I love how our babies watch over us when we're ill. DH has been sick with the flu since Thursday night. He's been to the ER twice today. Hopefully he'll be feeling better tomorrow. Maggie sticks to him like glue. Follows him from the bathroom to the chair to the bed and back again.

| How crummy I've never had an ear infection, but it does not sound like fun! Glad to hear your boys kept momma company. Isn't it so nice having them around?

| I think I realized this weekend how lazy my dogs are! LOL They sleep with me nonstop and they are not even medicated like I am!!! haha I slept much better last night though, woohoo... I woke up every 3 hours and took advil or percocet and fell back to sleep so thats good, better than I slept the last 3 nights. Now that the whole long weekend is pratically shot I might venture out today for a bit. I want to get a wine cooler fridge at BJs if they have any left... and I need to get dog food! I am hoping and praying for my ear to pop in a bit.... it did a little while ago but clogged back up so I have to be close.

| Oh my goodness, I know how horrible an ear infection can be. Make sure you take all your meds and the infection is cleared up.

| Well still no relief today. I went out yesterday for a couple hours in between doses of percocets, but as of today the ear is still all clogged up. I came into work for 8am but am leaving at 11am and won't be back tomorrow, what a way to lose a vacation day huh? I am holding out hope that my ear will pop tonight or tomorrow because I don't want to take anymore time off over this. I have 2 vaca days left this year and plans for both of them. I cannot believe this is taking so long either, ridiculous! I'm still in a lot of pain and sleep only in intervals. 2-3 hour spans of time.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | PLEASE take good care of your ears!!! A couple of years ago we were at a class reunion having a great time, and I was feeling great. Suddenly my right ear popped, got dizzy for a few minutes, then it went away & was fine. It did this 2-3 more times that night. After the last one, I had total hearing loss in that ear. Dr said a virus. He treated w/steriods, but no improvement. Just got real sick for a few months, dizzy all the time, very weak. To this day I cannot hear in that ear even a little, equilibrium is off at times so have to move slower than I ever have. With hearing in only one ear, I cannot tell from what direction sounds are coming from. I have to physically turn around in all directions hoping to see what/who the sounds are coming from. Loud sounds are piercing and painful in both ears. Have constant ringing in my deaf ear that can become incredibly loud. I try not to complain as worse things could have happened to me, but it really suck! Take good care of that ear, and never takes your ears/hearing for granted. So sorry you are in so much pain. Sure messes up your holidays. Take care!!!

Oh my gosh! That sounds TERRIBLE!!!! I know how you feel except I cannot imagine this going on for years. Even minus the pain it's extremely disorienting to have one ear completely clogged up and unable to hear. I am going through that also right now, but I know its going to unclog in a day or two and I'll be on the mend. I can't imagine longer than that, a week is enough for me. My equilibrium seems to be ok probably because this is an outer ear infection, not inner, so really its just the part that can be reached with a Q-tip that is infected and swollen closed. I get nervous and jumpy with sounds since I also can't tell which direction they are coming from. Will you ever get your hearing back? Do the doctors know what the heck happened to you? I am back at work today. Last night I actually slept for 5 hours straight which is the longest Ive slept in a week. woohoo The pain is not too bad anymore, and 3 advil seem to take care of it for about 5 hours now which makes me very happy, I mean on monday I could not go even 2 hours without taking something for the pain. Today is day 5 on antibiotics so this is the turning point now. I am soooo tired, not sure if its the meds or I'm just tired from such little sporatic sleep Ive had. Also the meds really messed up my digestive system and stomach. I eat yogurt every day though and drink lots of water like the doctor said to. Thanks everyone for the good wishes... I think (hope) (knock on wood) that the worst is over and it should get better from now on.

No Longer a Member | I get an ear infection about once a year, they always happen suddenly and with no real reason behind them. A decongestant, Motrin, lots of water, antibiotics, and rest usually get rid of it in a couple of days. I feel your pain, trust me, the first time it happened I slept maybe 2 hours in the night, went to the hospital because it literally felt as though someone was not only shoving a pen in my ear, but they driving it deeper and deeper the longer it went on. But decongestants help, if you aren't taking any yet, I'd say call your doctor and see if they'll interact with any of the meds he has you on, and if it's a good idea to take one. I hope you feel better soon, I know how crappy these things are. |
