You make me laugh. Nope. Not cheerleader material. CHEERLEADER MOM! I come with references. My daughter cheered from 7th grade through her 2nd year in college, and danced from 3 years old until.....she is still on the college dance squad - and she is in her 3rd year of college. A good mom knows how to find the answers to help the team. And a great mom is a great mom no matter what the modeling portfolio and measurements say! I'm satisfied with that!

And, yes, I'm kidding about the last part, but don't tell the guys. I'm treading on thin ice with them anyway with my man-skills incompetence.

First pic - my baby is the cutie on the left. The other 2 are her roommates.

2nd pic - front row, center girl kneeling. And yes - she changed her hair color. Again. (Actually when I was there this weekend, her hair was different again - she is a little restless right now!) But the eyes and the smile stay the same!

Easy token old guy! This is her mom you are talking to! But thanks - I think she is a cutie. And better than that, MOST of the time she is a sweetheart as well! I will tell her that she has your vote. She doesn't have time for her own life right now, let alone to take care of another life. Thank goodness she has the sense to know she couldn't spoil a pet the way a pet deserves to be spoiled!

The pics you would probably enjoy are on her my space. It is one of those things that as a mom, I pretend like I have no clue they are there. In the world of picking and choosing your battles, I prefer to pick ones where I might possibly have some say in the outcome! She is a good girl, but the girls definitely have more bikini photos on there than I would like them to have!

Can I post on your site? I'm a girl but I go camping ( don't use gas to start a fire) and I go fishing in May, and in upstate NY it"s COLD!! Got my 1st northern pike that I caught at 6am, after I had a beer to celebrate, now all the guys call me one of the boys! But this year will be the 1st with my yorkie do you think I'll still fit in???

Well, you definitely have potential. I like the beer celebration after the caught fish. However, I'm a little concerned that you may have gotten up early in order to catch a northern pike. Those are generally caught after staying up all night partying.

As for the boys, any of them who doesn't admire a cute Yorkie isn't worth your time!

And, DeLisa, I know what you mean about the MySpace pages. I've got a 14-year-old nephew who I'm about ready to turn in to the cops!

Testing a steak’s doness by temperature
This is the scientific approach, and probably the most accurate. Taking an instant read digital thermometer, poke it into the center of the steak and allow it to take a reading. Based on the internal temperature you can tell when the steak is done to your liking.

Very Rare Steak – 120°
Rare Steak – 125°
Medium-Rare Steak – 130° – 135°
Medium Steak – 140° – 145°
Medium-Well Steak – 150° – 155°
Well-Done Steak – 160°

One thing to keep in mind is that just because you take a steak off of the grill doesn’t mean its through cooking. The heat built up in the steak will continue to cook the meat until it begins to cool off, adding up to an additional 5 or 10 degrees of doness. This means you have to undershoot your steaks, removing them from the grill just before they reach the desired temperature. Undershooting is a good strategy anyhow, since you can always throw it back on the grill (in shame) if its not properly cooked, but you certainly can’t “uncook” a steak.

Testing a steak’s doneness by touch (the poke test)
Once you have mastered cooking with the thermometer, you can move up the method the pros use, a simple poke with your finger and you can judge the approximate doneness. Use the list below as a guide, but experience is the best teacher. As you test the temperature with your thermometer, give the steak a poke and note its firmness. This will help you develop a feel for doneness and you can eventually put the thermometer away!

Very Rare Steak – feels soft and squishy
Rare Steak – soft to the touch
Medium-Rare Steak – yields gently to the touch
Medium Steak – yields only slightly to the touch, beginning to firm up
Medium-Well Steak – firm to the touch
Well-Done Steak – hard to the touch

Good info there...Right now I take them off when I feel they are ready, and so far that's worked pretty well. That of course comes from the experience of using the thermometer to see when they are done (and I usually use it on my wife's steak just to be sure as she likes hers well done). And I can definitely vouch for the steak cooking after it's done. I went to a restaurant a while back and asked for a steak medium well. I cut it open and it seemed to be cooked at medium. After a few minutes of it sitting there, it was cooked a lot more than when I got it. However, I think this has a lot to do with the thickness of the steak. A thin steak will cool quicker so it won't cook the inside much after it comes off the grill, but this was a thick cut so it retained a lot of heat to self-cook.
I've never tried the "feel test" and I wonder how much that depends on the thickness of the meat.

I cheat. I have a digital meat thermometer that I use to determine if the food is done. It beeps for every "taste"... rare, medium rare, medium and well done.
