Thor's Human Donating Member | I'm Mad! Mad for Mad Men! I know there's at least one other fan of this sensational show here... any others? How about that Don in a swimsuit? Do you love Joan, or hate her? Will Pete's baby make him less of a jerk? People with excellent taste in tv want to know!

| Oooooooh! Don in a swimsuit! I am definitely pulling that up On Demand tomorrow. I want to be a combination of all of Don and Joan's best attributes. No, not those attributes. For instance, they are sparing with speech. They say only what is necessary. In business, they are unflappable. So what if they are a mess underneath it all. Sadly, I probably have more in common with uncool Pete and Peggy. |

Thor's Human Donating Member | Peggy has really come into her own though, don't you think? Did you see the recent episode where she put that guy is his place by working naked with him? I thought that was awesome, and a very interesting contrast to last Sunday's episode. They're both about women becoming a greater part of the workforce, I think. I don't want to spoil it for you, but a character I really love leaves. You have to watch it so we can commiserate.

| Hush you two! I've missed all this season's episodes. Did you know I wanted to dress Kaji up as Roger Sterling for Halloween?

Yes, Peggy has continued to grow from her days as a secretary. Despite her success in the office and her unique relationship with Don, she will always have a bit of awkwardness to her. Pete too, although he isn't a sympathetic character. He tries too hard and he will always be second-best because he is shallow. | |

Seriously, this season is sooooooo good. You have to start watching now, because really, is life worth living without having seen Season 4? I'm not sure.

| I was going to have a button down shirt made for Kaji, a little vest and hat too. I have a tie for him, and I was going to do his hair like they do on the show. I even practiced it! But now, Kaji's hair is too short and too gold for it to work. Back when I was thinking of it, Kaji's hair was a lot lighter and more "old man" looking. I guess I can keep the outfit and call him Donald Drapper.

| QS, you never shared your thoughts about Joan. Love her or hate her? I still haven't found time to enjoy Don in a bathing suit. Hopefully I'll catch up on the last 2 episodes sometime tonight. Are we 3 ladies the only fans of this show? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm a huge fan of the show, mainly because the characters are so complex, they all have traits that are good and bad, so they seem human-like. There are no good guys bad guys, they are what they are, and it's wonderful seeing them grow and develop. I'm disappointed in some, Betty for example, but she does seem like a real person to me, and not one dimensional. They did a great job of casting the players, and Joan is wonderful in her role. I was sorry to see Don's secretary died; I thought she was pretty funny. I like Pete, and even though he's kind of slimy at times, I look at it as him being very vulnerable. I think they did an excellent job of honestly portraying the time.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Personally, I don't like Joan, though I can see what others appreciate about her. She doesn't strike me as a very kind person. Peggy, for all her weirdness, has a good heart. I kind of admire Joan because she never wallows in self-pity, which has always been a weakness of mine. But I don't like her. And it really irritates me to see how nasty she STILL is to Peggy, who has been her superior for some time now. Joan would never make a nasty (and untrue) comment about a male copywriter's weight. What did you guys think of the back to back commentaries on women in the workforce? First, we had Peggy strip down and cut that guy down to size. Then Peggy fired... Joey? who I really loved, but behaved unforgivably. One thing I don't get is that I thought that that annoying new guy was Peggy's boss - didn't Don tell her as much? But they seem to speak to each other as equals. He has Salvatore's old job, right? I'm hoping this is one more step in getting the band back together. I was sad to see Don's secretary go too, she was great for comic relief. Kind of a great WTF moment when she died, but yeah, I'll miss her.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I see Joan's role as a product of the times. She was the head honcho of the woman, and I think she originally was trying to help Peggy be a little more with it. Peggy has gotten much more stylish and is really growing as a person. Joan seems a little jealous of Peggy's success in the male arena, although the whole thing would fall apart without Joan's management skills, she isn't given the respect she deserves, and instead of thanking Peggy for firing Joey (?), she felt like that just make her look incapable of taking care of herself. I was really amazed at Peggy taking off her clothes, which would have been so forward in those days, she really doesn't care what anyone thinks of her; she wants to get the job done. I see Joan as having a kind heart, different times she is consoling people with a pat, and it seems genuine, she's just not overly emotional, and staying at the hospital when the guy got his foot cut off with the riding lawn mower, I just think the relationship with Joan and Peggy seems like a sick mother daughter relationship when the daughter is starting to outshine the mother. I didn't know the annoying new guy was Peggy's boss?

Thor's Human Donating Member | What did you think of Joan's assessment in the elevator, that no matter how good women get, men will always be able to draw cartoons? I thought those two eppys were very interesting together. First, Peggy turns the tables on Annoying Hotel Guy and turns her naked body into a weapon. Then in the next episode, I felt like it truthfully demonstrated male/female tension in the workplace, but I didn't think that Peggy's firing was the master stroke that stripping down was. I think Joey was speaking for a lot of guys when he said that he hates working with women because they have no sense of humor. At the same time, Peggy can't let an obscene cartoon like that slide. What's a girl to do? (sob)

| I'm still behind in episodes because I couldn't get past the scene when Don is standing outside the club where he went swimming. Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" playing, Don striking a pose in sunglasses. *sigh* Never thought a man in Brylcreem and smoking could look so beautiful. Nancy, most of the time I want to smack Betty. Her frustrations and reasons for leaving Don are understandable, but I find it difficult to name one positive thing about her. The closest I have come is that she has (had?) high standards, but those standards were for show and social standing and less about love for her family. |
