My ex-husband got Matilda, a pot-bellied pig just before we divorced and living in a small town he would put her in a harness and take her to the bar that he would frequent. Everyonce in a while someone would would say "I saw your ex at the bar with the pig" I never knew for sure if they meant Matilda or his new girlfriend!!!

| You guys are one tough group. I agree, they should not be allowed to be sold as pets. Latest designer statement and most will end up in a bad situation. The only pig I now want is that Geico wee wee wee pig.....and I do not want him as a pet! |

| My friend bought one of these while on vacation in Hawaii and paid to ship it back. The "teacup" pig grew to be quite large and made a huge mess! She came home one day and the pig rammed open it's 50lb bag of food and was just sitting in it stuffing itself silly! They ended up giving it to a farm!

"The the Animal Rescue Site warns that the "teacup" trend is a marketing ploy -- these pigs may fit in a teacup when you buy them, but within five years they can weigh up to 80 pounds. While that's "teacup"-size relative to 800-pound full-size potbellies, many consumers are unprepared to care for the pigs when they mature, and pig sanctuaries are overflowing with 300,000 discarded potbellied pigs that grew to 150 pounds or more. Too many breeders are all about marketing, and this is a real problem.

Even if they are small, they are still pigs and this is another bad fad/trendy thing that has bad outcomes!

| OMG, I just found this thread. Steve, only you! No well gotta confess, I once had a PotBelly Pig named Porkchop. He was liter trained and was the cutest little piggy. But he started growing and growing and was real aggressive with food. I found him a home with a friend of mine that has some land. She sent me some pics of him laying in the neighbors garden sunning himself after he destroyed it and ate every vegie...They still have him and he now has tusk and weighs about 200 lbs. |

I think I'll stay with my yorkies and let the farmers have the pigs. But I did love the name "Porkchop"
