| laptop and printer reviews I'm going back to college (finally) in August and I found out that I'm able to use part of my financial aid to buy a laptop. I can't afford anything real expensive, but I want something that is going to last and has decent speed and memory. I'll be using it mostly for Microsoft Word, the internet, and pictures, so nothing special. I also am wanting to buy a good wireless printer. It will be a couple months before I buy anything, but I'm just doing some comparison and pricing, so I was hoping someone could give me some reviews (good and bad) on some recent laptop and printer purchases.

| I have a Compaq and so does my son. I just bought his and it has 3 GB memory and dual core processor. I purchased it at Walmart for $398.00. I have had mine for almost 2 years and have not had any trouble at all. I purchased mine at Sams. Mine is a little more advanced then his is. Mine cost about $700 if I remember correctly. I have mine for college as I am working on my masters degree. I have tons of software downloaded on it and it still works perfectly. We have had really good luck with them. I have never had a wireless printer so can't help in that area. |

| I bought this super-inexpensive HP printer at Walmart last summer and it works beautifully: Walmart.com: HP Deskjet F4440 All-in-One Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Copier: Computers Haven't tried printing photos on photopaper with it, but I didn't need that function for my purposes. |

I'm hoping you get more reviews from experts. I'm in the market also, or will be soon. I really want another full sized, large screened laptop because I watch a lot of TV and movies on it, but my brother has suggested I go ahead and get a netbook because I don't actually use cds, dvds in it. If you're taking it to school with you, my cousin highly recommends the netbook. I took the one I have to school everyday, and it was a bit heavy.

| I would save up money and go with a Mac! You will never go back. Also, you get a college discount (I think -$100) for a Mac. The cheapest, I wanna say, is $999. However, they last forever... so you get more for your dollar really. No need to buy virus programs, or anything. I will never go back to any form of a PC. WAY too many problems and most would start conking out after 6 months-1 year. Mac has been amazing and practically flawless. I don't know if it's affordable at all to you. I saved up for a while for mine. Getting one from someone who is selling theirs, etc (alot of people will upgrade to the Pro and sell their other one, so it's always worth checking ebay or craigslist).

I must be too simple minded to switch. I can understand kinetic energy, basic genetics, and how the digestive system works in detail but computers.... I can't seem to figure out.

I have to admit, my brain operates and solves problems a little backwards, so maybe my affinity for Macs says something about them. | |

But back on topic. Are macs that much more expensive? For someone on a budget that needs a good laptop, is mac the way to go?
