Default Help me find a home =D

Okay so hear is the dilemma, we currently live in Ohio/Michigan-drive five minutes were in Michigan lol. and I extremely dislike it here haha. I want to move to another place. I of course fell in love with the south this year when I took a trip to Texas and we drove there and the more I saw the more I fell in love with. I loved the swamps and the different scenery and everything. The only problem is the bf hates the heat. He physically can't handle the heat it gets a little hot and he gets headaches and is just a mess. I don't mind the heat my problem is I'm not a huge fan of the cold I'm okay with it for a month or two but then I'm way over it. I know you all live everywhere so I was looking for some advise where do you think would be a good place for us to call home...somewhere that's not here.
My family moved away from me for a year as soon as I turned 18 to Buffalo, NY so being away from them is no big deal. They've already grown away from me, and I them. Don't get me wrong I love them, we just don't need each other we learned to live without. So help me figure out where our home is please because I don't think it's here! Any and All input is so completely appreciated!!!! Thanks!!

I know what you mean about the South, not only the scenery but the people are wonderful. But, the heat is something that is difficult to acclimate to. I lived in Texas for 16 years. The first summer there I lived under an air-conditioning vent. I hated it, I only ventured from my house to my car to my office. Coming from California, where the summer is filled with activity; picnics, beach, bike riding, etc. It was hard for me to take that summers in Texas, nobody went outside. They have a couple of sayings in Texas; if you don't like the weather, stick around it'll change in 5 minutes and Texans say, there are only 2 Seasons in Texas, Christmas and Summer.

It's not heat in the south that makes it almost unbearable but, the humidity. And then you have to contend with the high utility bills. The air conditioner operates 24 hours a day......it never cools down at night below 80 degrees. Oh and then there are the bugs, lots of them.....mosquitoes are everywhere and bugs I had never seen in my life. Oh! and fire ants.....

My husband can't take the cold due to health issues and I can't stand humidity and being really hot. Makes for thermostat wars! He wants to move to Tucson but I don't know if I can take the heat even with low humidity. We are going there Saturday for the 2nd time to check it out. Maybe you could visit a few other places before deciding. My niece lives in Nashville and the weather is milder than where you live and I hear lots to do.

The bugs are a big part of why the bf is a no go on it. The fire ants yah...I upset a large mound of them when visiting Texas I stepped on their home (accident the backyard was overgrown and I didn't see it!) and they all came out and covered the backyard it was a small backyard but still Scary! I of course high tailed it inside, and told the parents of the small children that just moved their about their killer ants.

I love it here in Western Kansas. I moved here from WI just over 5 years ago. The winters are mild, just enough to remind me of "home" and the summers can be hot but there is not much for humidity. Just another option to check out The cost of living is affordable and the people are very friendly

most of the tornados are over in the eastern part. In 5 years here only 1 tornado that was even near us. We actually had more tornadoes in WI

I used to live in the Ohio/Michigan area and I lived in Ohio among other places until just recently. We retired to the Austin TX area. I was surprised at how cold it is here in the fall and winter. It is beginning to warm up into the 80's now and it is cool in the mornings and around 80 during the day, then it cools off at night. Last summer the normal temp was 104....it was horrible, I thought I would die. I really love it here and this is it we are staying.

I think about if I could live other places in the US, where would I live.

I have several areas that I love! I love the New England states, so beautiful, serene. Two of my best vacations were spent in this area. I just love the scenery, history. So many towns remind me of Norman Rockwell settings!

I also love Colorado! I love the mountains, 300 days of sunshine. No humidity or wind chill, love it!

Washington state is beautiful too!

I have to live where there is a change of seasons, I'm actually more of a winter person!

Good luck with your decision!

Been in Houston for 30 years after growing up on the east coast - I do not miss those winter but this year in texas - we had one - snowed a few times and while the heat is tough in summer - it's bearable - it's the humidity.

This year its been beautiful ! we didn't jump straight into summer so each year is different here

it was horrible last year wasn't it ? I'm loving this year - no humitidy and normally we already have some

Florida is similar to Texas - when I talk to my friend there - she pretty much has the same weather we have - but I think FLA is so much prettier - I'd love to live there

Well, MYPANN I think you have gotten wonderful replies. I wish I could live anywhere but I'm born and raised on Long Island NY and find it hard to leave. Yes, our winters are sometimes too long (like this year) and our summers are too short. But I love the access to the Ocean, lakes, rivers, skiing, gambling, nightlife in NYC is endless and just about anything else.
BUT that is me being biased.
Now, I own a home in Wilmington, NC ( near Wrightsville Beach)and the people there are wonderful. The weather is beautiful and in the 10 years I have owned it, we haven't had a hurricane yet. (Knock wood)
I've been to California a few times and I love their weather as well. In around LA, it seems to be around 80 a lot.
I do often dream of Texas and other states in the south as I believe that is where my heart is, but haven't been.
Good Luck!!!
