| Something is eating my growing flowers.... help I planted crocuses last fall- along with tulips- they are both starting to emerg from the ground-woo hoo- but SOMETHING is coming and chomping the top off of my crocuses- i know it is an animal and not a bug as it is a clean cut. Does anyone know what I can do to stop this from happening This is my first go at planting these and i was SO happy to see them blooming but i'm quite sad to see that they are being eaten. Also the ones that have been chomped- will they continue to grow? |

| I just love seeing those little crocuces peek their way out this time of year. The only thing I can think to do it put moth balls around your flower beds. This prevents unwanted animals. I think maybe, skunks, rabbits and squirells and even deer can be getting to them. |

| Hey Marci, Did you see my post on FB. I haven't checked back but human hair is suppose to help. I tried growing tulips for years and finally gave up---this is before I heard about the hair trick. Once they ate my tulips they never bloomed. Good luck!

| Sounds like squirrels to me, but could also be chipmunks. If you really want to keep your bulbs, then you need to feed these little guys elsewhere. Sounds a little strange, but squirrels/chipmunks can smell peanuts from very far distances, it is one of their favorite foods. So find a place in the far corner of your yard, and put peanuts there. They will get used to going there, and leave everything else alone. I have about 6 squirrels that I feed everyday, and my crocuses are coming up and none of them are being eaten, and they are right underneath the feeder .....LOL Given a choice, animals will almost always chose nuts over anything growing in your yard! Good luck, let us know how it turns out! |

| I know how you feel, but I don't have any advice. Several years ago, I planted a good size bed of pansies. All different colors, in a very pretty design. I woke up the next morning to find that all the blooms were gone, leaving nothing but green stems. It was rabbits in my case.

| The hair thing really does work, and safe for the environment too. Talk to your hair stylist and see if he/she will save some sweepings from their shop for you. We don't have that problem out here in Vegas (no yard), but back in Missouri my stylist would do that for me and several other people. |

| I bet it is rabbits eating your tulips...those stink'n rabbits! They have tried eating my lilies when they come up in the Spring. One thing I did was buy nylon net at a fabric store...it's quite cheap. I covered the lilies and put rocks on the net to hold it down. That way you can still see the flowers, but the rabbits can't get them. It worked for me. I've also, in other areas of the yard, wet the leaves of the plant and then sprinkle cayenne pepper on them. It will stick to the plant if it's wet and rabbits don't like that hot taste. I have tried the human hair...one year it seemed to work well, but last summer, there was one stubborn rabbit that was trying my patience. He didn't seem to mind the hair at all. Good luck with saving your tulips! We still have lots of snow here...it will be a while before we see things coming up!
