Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Kirsty Alley - Thoughts about her media attention I don't 'follow' celebs - but can't avoid hearing story after story about this actress who I always thought was fantastic - even the national news talks about her - it always focuses on her size and must really hurt the feelings of those dealing with weight problems Personally I've never had weight issues .....but I feel so freakin sorry for her or anyone who is bigger.... why do people obsess so much over someone because of how they look ? ...or how much they weigh ? IT has nothing to do with 'who' they are - Course she makes alot of money now talking about it - but still...our society can really focus on all the wrong things it seems |

| I totally agree. DH was watching some news program the other night and they had a Victoria Secret model who was anorexic. It was so sad. I have always struggled with 20 extra lbs. I can tell you I would rather have that extra cushioning as to die trying to meet the media's expectations of what is "beautiful". Beauty is within you can be perfect in looks but ugly as sin in your heart, and that is what should matter in this world is the inside not the outside. I feel sorry for Kirstie she is a good actress and a beautiful person thin or overweight.

| I adore Kristy Alley! She is who she is and does not care who knows or what they have to say. I agree with both of you, society puts tons of pressure on women. We are judged on how young we are, how beautiful we are, and how thin we are; and god help us if we do not match up to all these expectations that are layed upon us! I have had several friends in the modeling profession and let me tell you, it is not just the anorexia, but the heroine as well to keep the cravings down; which is, and always has been a huge problem. When society sets up unattainable goals for us, instead of beating ourselves against the wall to meet them, we should just make our own goals. I am with Kristy, I like me and I do not care who does or does not! Those people who judge me on societies rules will find out that I am not playing by their rules, and could give a rats-butt what they think of me! BTW, who the hell in society keeps making these rules up as to what I should or should not be? Is it just the other women, the men, or a combination. I would love to know what everyone else thinks! |

| Jessica simpson was called fat also, no wonder young girls are staving themselves. There is so much plastic surgery now too, it is difficult to tell what is real and what is not. I just wish people would live and let live and realize that differences are a good thing, not something negative. I think it's sad how our society is obsessed by the "perfect" image, or their view of perfection.

| I agree, that is so sad, not to mention just plain rude. She is who she is. Her size does not make her a different person. They do that with Oprah too. But hey, it sells magazines. |

| I have always lie Kirstie Alley and feel really bad for her. Because people make such a to do about weight and size, she's chosen to "make fun" of it. I think that she's got a great attitude in that she can do it although I am sure at some level she does feel hurt about it. I would rather concentrate on the person and who they are. I have always thought she really pretty and I still do. She has gorgeous hair and beautiful skin but you have never heard anyone bring that up!

| I saw the dress Kirsty Allen wants to get into when she loses weight. Looks like about a size 5. Then I see Jessica Simpson letting herself be a normal size, (looks like she's about a size 12 or 14). I don't know what to think. I keep hearing that no matter how much weight you lose, you will gain it back. This is what I have seen time after time with the people who have lost. I guess we just do what we feel is best for us, and that won't be the same for everyone.

Sure, true obesity is so bad for health - and is also such a problem now for U.S. children (especially). But the fact our culture (and so many others too) idolize an appearance that is unattainable or airbrushed or obtained via unhealthy means, is truly demoralizing for all of us, and causes such an unhealthy set of standards.

I just saw Jessica on the View yesterday I think, and she was about a size 12 or 14. She said she has decided to just be herself and not starve anymore. Good for her.

Yorkiedaze...that's sooo true about Chico's - they have the strangest sizes - I'm in like a size 0 or 1 with their clothes and I can tell you - I'm NOT.. Chico's is (IMO) over-rated and over priced and I think part of the lure is their sizing system...it's whacked but mentally probably makes some 'feel' good to be in a size 1 or 2

V -- I cringe whenever I see the tabloid covers featuring an unflattering picture of Pierce Brosnan's wife, who gained a considerable amount of weight after leaving the industry -- long ago. It's sick the way she is held up for ridicule.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | well speaking of Kirsty A - I just got home from work & have the news on - and there she is again - only this time cause she said 'B***S***' on tv -.... all I could think was oh boo - that's news ? There's so much way worse on tv than a stupid cuss word. heck if I had her kind of attention I'd be saying way worse |
