| Help Decide What Type Of Flooring To Choose I need advice! I have just got through adding a room in my basement for my son's office, den, or play room. We decided to put down tile with radiant heat under it. So far I am in love with the heated floors. They are so warm, and all of my babies seem to really love it down there. Now I am wanting to replace my Carpet upstairs with something more child and puppy friendly. I have thought about using the tile up here too, but I'm not sure it would look good through out my house, and it is very heavy. I have thought about hardwood floors, but they scratch easy and I'm not sure the radiant heat would work well with them. I have thought about linenolum, but I do not know how pet/kid friendly it is but it is compatiable with the radiant heated floors. I have checked into vinyl too. I have been told that it is very forgiving and kid/pet friendly. I am not for sure how great it would work with the heated flooring system. So if anyone has any experience with this, please give me the good, bad, and ugly. I want to make the right decision for all of my babies! I will try to attach pictures of my sons room for an ideal about the tile I have mentioned.

| We have laminate (as well as tile, and hardwood) and we love it!! Has the wooden floor look but is so easy to care for. Doesn't scratch or stain and is easy to clean. We wanted to get the heated tile but it is so expensive plus our kitchen is already done in tile. Plus tile is so hard, we wanted something a little softer. Linoleum is a waste of money, it doesn't hold up at all. We didn't want hardwood as we have hardwood in the living room and it takes a lot to care for it. So we tried the laminate and it turned out great.

| Is laminate the same thing as vinyl? I have looked at the Vinyl at Home Depot, but my boss just put Konecto in his lake house. It looks great so far. It has the wood look too, but he just had it done and no one is actually there walking on it, and to have the heated floors it has to cure three weeks before putting the Konecto down. We have had hardwood floors before we moved. It was alot of work, and not to forgiving of "accidents" either. I love the tile down stairs, but I dont think I want it through out the house. It is very hard, and I want the babies to be comfy....

| Thank you, I am in love with heated floors. Going from the stairs to the tile is a total shock. Its like...cold feet, cold feet, burrr freezing feet!.... Open door, and AAh.... feet in a warm toasty heaven

| Heated tile -- my dream for my kitchen! You probably would not be happy with either linoleum or vinyl. I have the latter in my kitchen and it is not durable (especially now that I can't use my heavy chemical wax), and it is a serious downgrade in home value. Tile is hard, but so beautiful. How about tile with area rugs? Wood is beautiful and can be made more durable/impervious to scratches with a heavy coat of varnish, like the factory finished stuff, including laminates. The only drawback to laminates and veneers is that refinishing potential is limited compared to true hardwood. Not sure if all wood floor types can be used with in-floor heating systems. Enjoy choosing your new flooring! |

| Thanks for the replies and help! I am soo confused, I hate making these decisions. Down stairs was easy my son decided. I Love the heated tile floor. I currently have one large piece of vinyl or laminate in my kitchen and bathrooms. That seems to work well with any accidents, but I hate the carpet in the rest of my house. I dont want to use rugs because the babies might think they are fuzzy pee pads. They have done really well about learning the difference between the carpet and pee pads, but I think the rugs would just be too tempting. That is why I want the heated floors. I want them to have warm little feet too. I really am not too concerned about the resale value right now. I hope that I will not be moving for many years, and they will be replaced first if I ever do sale. I am more concerned with having a decent looking floor that is some what accident friendly and is compatable with heated flooring. Wow I dont want much Some people might think I am crazy for wanting my babies to be comfy more than I want to increase the value of my home, but I know here people will understand

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Yr new floor looks really great! It's ceramic tile, right? My daughter has in her townhome, tile that looks like ceramic, but not. It's really nice & looks so much like ceramic. I can't remember the name of it though, but is so easy to clean & take care of too.

I'm not sure if vinyl or linoleum are compatible with in-floor heating systems because they are both attached to the substrate with glue. The same might apply to faux tile products. You have a tall order -- check with a flooring expert who might be able to give you some ideas and alternatives. | |

| You should go to a flooring company and ask the experts. They can send someone out to your house to assess the situation and come up with the right flooring for you.
