| Backpacking Europe! Has anyone done this? My boyfriend and I are planning to go sometime next year, as long as we can save enough for it! We'd like to go for about 3 weeks. Any tips from anyone who has done something like this before? I have never backpacked, and I'm very detail-oriented so it makes me a little nervous to just travel to the other side of the world with no plan! My boyfriend did work in Ireland for a few months and made a lot of friends all over Europe and did a bit of traveling, so he'd like to meet back up with some of them. We are still deciding on what time of year to go (spring, summer, or fall) and if we might go on an actual tour for a few days to start so we're with a group before just being out on our own. I know people who have done their whole trips on a tour (Contiki) and LOVED it, and others who say backpacking the whole time is the only way to go!

I'm actually going to Europe next year myself! We are doing a tour of England, Scotland & Ireland. Then we are going to add a few nights in Paris! I've never been to Europe and it's a dream of a lifetime! You might check out Rick Steves site. He does a lot of travel shows on PBS. He has all kinds of books, etc.. I visited his store when I was in Washington state and they have lots of great info! I would also suggest reading on Fodors and you can get lots of info that way as well! Good luck with your planning!!

| Thanks for the info! I have wanted to go to Europe forever! I don't know if we can fit in everything I want to see in just 3 weeks We may need to go back again! My mom's mom is from Hungary so I'd love to go there, and my dad's side of the family came from England, Scotland, and Ireland. I am such a history nut, I am probably going to bore my boyfriend to death

Our tour to England, Ireland & Scotland is 17 days. Then we are going to stay 4-5 nights in Paris. It's probably impossible to see everything, I know I want to do the same! I guess I will just have to save and go back again!!
