| My Eloquent friends, I need help! I am a little blue today... It looks like I am going to have to close my hair salon. I don't think I can tough it out any longer through this recession. It makes me sad, but on the up side ( I try to look for one, when I can) I will be able to spend more time with my fur-family!!! I will be posting a sign... this is where I need your help... it needs to be short, and too the point... and include the gist of these details... I will have the same phone number... 1.Closed (closing) 2. Looking for new (cheaper) location ( I may not?!) 3.By appt, I can come to you...?? (If this idea works, my overhead would be MUCH better lol) The sign will be posted in a neighboring business once I am closed. You folks are so good with words, I thought I'd give it a shot...

| That's too bad. Small business are closing all over. It's scary times. To be honest, my EX daughter in law, was a beautician and worked only by appointments. Boy did she do well. Always busy, however, lot's were in the evening and in cold weather that was hard. But if it's worth it you gotta do what you gotta do. I wish you well. Sorry I'm not good at wording things either. You don't want you home # up in print I wouldn't think. How about sending out your cards to your customer's that you have now and hope word of mouth travel's fast. Lot's of people find it convient to have someone come to their home. How about senior citzens complexes as well. It's hard for them to get out and they sure like their hair to be in place. Good luck to you, |

Lots of my clients are just walk-ins, all these years, some I don't even know their last names! Lots, I have all their details... I have a cel phone number that I will just keep, and call forward to "where ever" I am. I just don't know how to word "The announcement, of my departure..."

| I saw someone who had an ad on their car yesterday. It was called "Styles on the Run". She is doing the come to your house work that you are talking about. Maybe you could use something close to the same name. "Official Location Closing" "Now Offering In Home Styling" "Call xxx-xxx-xxxx"

| My best friend had 2 babies in a row, one is now 1 and the other 2, she had to quit the salon she worked at but before she left she gave her phone number to her clients. She also placed an ad on craigslist and has been doing Wedding parties ( she loves it) , she has been making more then what she used to bring home before. No chair rental, no overhead, and makes a killing on the wedding parties. So maybe there really is a bright side. She also put a flyer up in a local assisted living facility and has several clients now by word of mouth and they are willing to work around her schedule. Alot of those ladies do not have cars so having someone come to them is wonderful. I think it really could work.

| Ok here's what I think.... Try to put a positive spin on it. Think positive PR. Also you need to do what is a "call to action". So something like if you call and book an appointment by @$@#$ you will receive a %off or a free @#$@#. I like the idea of a catch phrase like....umm...ok this part I'm not so good at... also you could talk about it being in the best interest of your clients to have it at their home... Hassle free, get fully pampered at home etc... The good news is people that have a stylist come into their home are keepers usually, like elderly who cannot travel, or children, stay-at-home Moms. I don't think you should mention the economy or having to leave it does not put you in the "best possible light" I wish you the best and let us know what you come up with...

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I wish you could get on that reality TV show, Tabatha's Salon Takeover, that rescues struggling salons! Love that show. How about something like this: We're closing our doors but not our styling Call XXX-XXXX for an in-house appointment

I had the exact same thought about this being a job for Tabatha. Wonder if she would travel to Canada? Btw, I liked you sign suggestion too!

And thanks. One more, same theme ... We're closing our doors, not silencing our scissors. Call XXX-XXX for an in-home appointment
