| Design Star Did anyone else follow the Design Star series? It wound up last night and Antonio won. I was disappointed as I thought Dan should have won. For some reason the designer judges liked Antonio's "in your face" attitude better. They were always criticizing Dan for giggling. I found Antonio to be brusque, unresponsive to what the people actually wanted, just did what HE wanted, bossy (until last night when he suddenly treated his carpenter crew with respect and friendship), and basically an egotistical butt. So, how did I really feel? LOL! I thought Dan did such a great job of really listening to what his clients wanted. They did not even highlight that he made the mirrored wall for the daughter who practiced dance in the house or that he enlarged a snapshot of mom and daughter as a baby, to be a focal point of their strength together starting out after a divorce. He was so inventive with the rooms and they were beautiful and super-functional! Antonio's designs this week were ugly. Who wants a kelly green bedroom or those orange chairs? He did not make any decisions based on what the clients wanted. Even at the end when the judges asked him what the clients wanted him to do, all he said was they wanted splashes of color and then he started in on what he wanted to do with their space. And that horrible wardrobe that he cut up to put on the fireplace! Yech! I think the judges had already decided to pick Antonio because they liked that he was so unlike anyone else on HGTV. Makes sense, I guess...but I won't watch his show. He just rubs me the wrong way and I think it was a travesty that Dan did not win for his absolutely beautiful and creative home makeover. If I was hiring a designer, there is no question -- I would pick Dan. I know he would listen to what I wanted and needed, and then use his creative designing skills to produce something beautiful not just -- memorable. I need a life! Really got wrapped up in this series. This is the first time I followed the show, but I really liked it. I started watching it because my favorite HGTV guy, David Bromstadt, talks about being a previous Design Star winner. I would love to see that series of the show! I think David would have beaten everyone in this series too. He is very talented, so personable, and I don't hate it that he usually takes his shirt off somewhere along the way during each show. What a dirty old lady I am!

| The last time I got hooked up on Design Star was when Kim won. I liked her and watch her still. I liked Dan best. Each time I watched it I thought Antonio was too bossy and thought he was it! I loved the nursery Dan made. It was beautiful. He's really sweet and I wanted him to win. Now I'm happy I didn't get really caught up in the show. Although HGTV is my favorite channel. |

| There are still two more days that you can vote on one of this past series to get an online show with HGTV. Not sure how much something like that would pay but figured it would still be something worthwhile for a budding designer. So, I voted all 10 of my daily allotted votes for Dan.

| I loved Dan too! And I'm with you Debra....That Antonio just rubbed me the wrong way. I missed several of the shows but watched when I could and I always loved what Dan did. I don't think he was a big enough show boat for the judges. I too think Dan should have been the winner and was so sad for him when he didn't. HGTV is my favorite chanel as well. Now that I'm not working my tv stays on HGTV all day...until hubby comes home and turns it to the sports chanel. So, I just go to the office then and turn HGTV back on. |

| I wanted Dan to win too, but I figured Antonio would, just because the judges have commented on liking his "style" all along. I also think Dan was too much like some of the the other guys already on HGTV. I would also take Dan over Antonio if I was looking for a designer. I hated that green bedroom and those squatty orangy chairs that Antonio used in this last makeover. I also hated the pink geese in an earlier show, but what do I know??? I did like Antonio's kitchen on this last episode better than Dan's though, but I think that was more the layout of the kitchen and what Antonio had to work with, than Dan's style in it. Also, I was disappointed in this season's finale...it just seemed so bland. Last year, they brought back most of the other contestants and talked to them about their experience and had flashback scenes and such...I would have liked to have seen more of that this time around. Also, I got the impression, most of the other contestants weren't crazy about Antonio either...so that might explain it too,

| David Bromstadt was the best I also voted for Dan. No way in the world I would ever hire Antonio as a designer because he doesn't listen and comes across as cocky. Antonio didn't listen to the clients and did whatever HE liked. I think the female judges had a crush on Antonio and mistook his bravado as talent. The only Design Star winner I watch is Color Splash with David Bromstadt; he is very talented and every one of his rooms ROCK! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Actually I loved Antonio, I love his lack of training and I find some of the contestants too predictable. I thought Dan stepped it up a little too late, his room week before last, the nautical nursery, was one of the best and those lights he did on the ceiling were wonderful, but he really blew it with the Gazebo on the outside challenge, it just didn't work with anything, was he setup, by Antonia???? I think overall Antonia show will be much more fun to watch, and he does things with colors that I haven't seen before. If I were actually hiring someone, I'd probably want Dan, but I'm more likely to watch Antonio. The season David was on was the best, he really had some tough competitors, and now all the designers know a little on what to expect, but his white room challenge was just so far ahead of anyone else it was amazing.

I'll have to agree to disagree about Antonio being more interesting though. I like to watch the design shows that I can actually see myself using/living in. I do not like Antonio's "style" or lack thereof. I also think he is a bully. He also kept flirting with the female design judges and they had the poor taste to eat it up. Not very "judge-ly" And I enjoy both of their shows on HGTV, just was not happy with their impartiality. I will have to watch the daytime Design Star shows for a rerun of the season David was on. I have a very bizarre facination with him. He just seems to have so much fun with everything he does. I love people like that! For a Design show my postings sound more like they come from a Soap Opera! ROTFL! Thanks everyone -- I have been dying to discuss the show. No one I know follows this!

| I think it is pretty tacky of HGTV to not let us vote for this year's winner. I always liked the format of the final show with a studio audience and all of the former designers back and to speak about their experiences.

| Antonio all the way. I lost all respect for Dan when he allowed Tori to accept responsibility for his gazebo snafu. Why would anyone pay $10,000 for that eyesore?! Dan Vickery and Antonio Ballatore are like oil, vinegar. Design talent is rare enough, and I'll accept it in any package.

If this is the first time that the public did not get to vote on the winner of the show, then it is even more suspicious to me that the thug also knows as Antonio, won.

| Ha! I know what you mean on that! Did you read the last sentence of my original post in this thread. No, not hating it at all! ROTFL! He really is adorable! I even watched him when he designed a room in the gym. Now that was never going to apply to anything I would think about doing, but it was fun watching him cause he got very HOT! And yes, you guessed it, off came the shirt! I wonder if he realizes some 50-something year old lady like me is talking about him like this. Oh, David........
