I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | PayPal Sucks! I was under the impression that PayPal was rather safe. It's not. I ordered something from a merchant, and was to receive it in 10 days. After a couple of weeks went by, I decided to contact the company. I could not reach them through their website, email address, or company phone number so I put in a dispute at PayPal. PayPal informed me that the company had till June 29 to respond. Today I get a letter from PayPal saying, Quote:
We hope you understand and feel safe????????????????????? Ha! I decided to call my credit card company, and complain, and they said PayPal isn't allowed to do this, and they can't charge me for something I didn't receive, even the company "doesn't have the funds". Just wanted to share this information with others, who believe that all you have to do is put in a dispute, and remember too, the time limit on disputes is very short, so if you don't get something a few days after expected delivery dispute it right away. My credit card company is going issue me a refund, so yay for that company!

| You can escalate this on PayPal and it really gets your money back faster.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | That was the letter I received after I escalated the claim, before you escalate it, they don't really do anything. Escalating just means that they contact the company. They checked into the matter, and found out I was right, they sided with me, but still want to charge me.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I think many people are surprised to learn the amount of any refund from paypal depends entirely on the balance in the seller's account. That info is plainly stated on their site. It's also the reason that paypal requires that buyers on ebay post feedback before releasing the funds or baring that...holds the funds for 21 days. The safest method of payment with paypal is one charged to a credit card. Glad you're getting your $$ back.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I realize it wasn't an ebay purchase, but the situtation you just described....is WHY paypal implemented the changes for ebay purchases.

| Yes, Paypal can suck! If you are a buyer, and you didn't get the items, or you got goods not as described, just skip the Paypal resolution process and go straight to your credit card to complain. I believe most credit card companies would give you about 45 to 60 days to file a claim (mine usually allows 60) and you will certainly get your money back if you never got the stuff you paid for. And as bchgirl said (great tip!), ALWAYS pay for stuff on Paypal via credit card, not via Paypal balance or your bank account, as that will give you the most protection. If you had paid via Paypal balance or via your bank account, you would probably not be able to get any of your money back if the seller just "ran" off with it... |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I guess I was being overly dramatic when I said PayPal sucks. It's just they don't really offer the safety I thought they offered. When my credit card company said they would reimburse me for the purchase, I was concerned PayPal might want to cancel my account with them, and PayPal is useful for so many things (like contributing to wonderful websites ), I didn't want that to happen. I will skip that resolution process next time, it seemed worthless.

| I thought Paypal required business accounts to have a credit card on file as a back up? Of course, if the card is maxed out or expired, they have no way to know that until someone has a problem. Glad you got your money back! |

| I'm glad your CC is refunding you - here's a tip though. Go to that website's "about/contact/policy" pages. Totally blank. No contact info, no 800#, not even an email address, no mailing address, no return policy, no shipping policy... That's kind of a tip off they are either a scam or lazy |

| Paypal does not seem to protect the seller at all either. Recently I received a notice from Paypal saying that an order I had taken through my business months ago had decided that the charge was fraudulent on their credit card Now, we were in constant contact with the customers, as it was a custom order of 2 dresses. We developed the typical relationship that we do with clients, and then we got smacked with that. We were not aware (there is so much fine print with paypal) that if the credit card company refunds the money to the buyer, that it comes out of our account!! Plus an additional "fee" because Paypal supposedly fought on our behalf. What the heck to all these other fee's cover that I pay constantly to paypal?? We sent the credit card company all of our correspondance with the buyer to show that they were well aware of all of the charges. Then they said that the credit card number was stolen and used with us We just knew it was a lie, but there was nothing we could do about it. I have had a big problem with Paypal since. I guess if you make a purchase through paypal, all you have to do is say that your credit card number was stolen for a purchase and you get your money back. I think its just wrong. We take online orders. You put in your credit card information....we cannot check ID's and signatures the way that a retail store in the mall or department store can. We wrote a nice letter to paypal telling exactly how we feel about it.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Actually, I think this sort of thing could be happening more in the coming months. Many business are "going out of business."
