| Depressed with my Job :( Hey Everyone, Lately I have been so depressed with my job. I really am unhappy with what I am doing, and would like to move on. As everyone knows, there are NO jobs. I would love to go to school. I am only 20, and have been married for nearly 3 years. I never went to college because I got married and started working. There is no way I can quit my job and go to school, we simply can't afford it. I really don't know what to do. I am willing to work part-time and go to school full time, but DH says we still won't be able to afford it. Sorry for the dreary post, but I am just a bit down |

| I'm sorry. I'm going through some dilemmas myself. I'm 19 and at the local community college but completely clueless as to what I want in life. I'm still living at home with my mother, stepdad and sister but I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to move. But it's taking that first step that is SO difficult.

| I'm sorry you are unhappy. Rather than go part-time, why not continue working and start school part-time? I started working right out of high school because I needed to - not because it was something I loved. Many times, this is just life and you have to deal with it until you have the means for something else. For me, this meant working for 25 years before I was able to leave for something I loved. However, along the way, I did start school and in 7 years completed a Bachelor Degree. I was also a wife and mom of two teenagers at that time. Fill the open time with things you love and it will carry you through.....

| I was married right out of high school then divorced at 23. At 26, I decided to go to college, so signed up for school, I quit my job (9-5) & became a waitress because i could make good money & the hours were flexible. I worked 37.5 hours a week & took 12 hr (full load) per semester. I finished in 4 years. Was it easy, no, but you get into a groove & it can be done. Oh yeah, I also was raising my son during this time. He was 7 when I started school. That was a huge accomplishment for me! |

| Check out University of Phoenix. They offer online studies and the counselors will help you find grants if you don't have the money to go to college. They are accredited and offer several Bachelor programs as well as Master's programs. And you can do it in the evenings in the comfort of your own home. Good luck...

| Where there is a will there is a way!!!! I was once in your position even though I hate my job (not my patients just job in general) I have learned to suck it up b/c my company is helping pay for school..not being nosy but have you tried financial aid??? Almost everyone qualifies for it may not be much but can always give you the extra push you need to make the decision. Good Luck if you have any ?'s just let me know! There is also this great web site to sign up for. it is called fast web scholarships you answer a few questions and it gives you scholarships you are eligible for and continues to update them as they change.

| I would strongly suggest that you visit with a career counselor and determine exactly what it is you would like to do with your life and then you can set a plan of action into motion. You are very young and you have your whole life ahead of you - with good health 60 or 70 years. Don't get yourself frustrated, taking that first small step in the right direction is the hardest. Good luck! |

| I would recommend you do a certification program rather than a 4-year-not-sure-what-I-want-to-do college degree. After my college experience (and job hunting nightmare that has been the last 6 years) I would only recommend 4-year degrees for people who want to be something specific that requires it, like an engineer or a teacher. You can do nursing, vet tech, secretarial, web design, etc. etc. etc. certification for 1-2 years at a community college and actually graduate with skills. I have a 4-year business degree that I got in 3 years (I took 22 hours the last semester just to finish, and got all A's) because I was completely bored and the last year was literally just "fluff." I wanted to learn how to run my own business but you can do that through experience and relevant CC classes like accounting. I took multiple semesters of Accounting/Econ/Finance and no one in college taught me Quickbooks. I still had to learn that when I got out! I feel your pain and I'm sorry. It's terrible when you hate your job. Good luck!! Last edited by Erin; 05-29-2009 at 10:16 AM. |

| You have been given some good advice here. The good thing is your only 20. If you want to go to school then go.. even if it is only one or two classes at a time. You will be done before you know it and maybe by the time you have completed your general studies you will have a better idea of what you want to do. Good luck to you! Don't give up ~ make it happen!
