| Anyone photography people? I'm in an intro. to dig. photography class (almost over with.. thankfully!) and for our final we are matting (book mat-style) 6 prints. Our teacher suggested buying this product (Crescent White Rag Mount Board, .060, 11 x 14", 25 Pack - CT1225 - 2299.11) but I'm confused. Does anyone know why some of the mat board is black? I'm trying to buy something similar if I can- this package is double of what I need. This might sound horrible, but does anyone think I could get away with buying premade mats and then fabricating the backs myself? I wouldn't mind cutting the mat board if I didn't have a phobia of razor blades.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Mounting board is different than matting board. The mounting board is what you would apply the photo to, and matting board goes over the photos. I imagine some mounting board comes in black because pictures would look better over a black background. You won't always see mounting board on a framed picture, but you always see the mat. Ready-made mats are the way to go for lowest prices, and come in many sizes and colors. I would go to Michaels, they usually have a great selection, and you can probably get mounting boards there too.

Also Aaron Brothers has prefab mats that can be bought individually, you just wont have the flexibility of a different crop. hope that helps | |

| Very carefully! I've cut the tip of my finger off TWICE! ETA: That sounds worse than it actually was either time. None of my fingers are shorter than the others or anything, haha.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I hope you mean you use a craft knife, and not just the razor, this is difficult even with the knife, especially cutting the mats, it's impossible with just a razor to get a clean edge, with no blood! I like a beveled edge, but that's something that I never learned how to do right, and that's why I buy the precut. Here's a picture of a craft knife. Craft Razor Knife and Cutting Mat Set - SK3225

But anyway... they needed to be 11x14 so I had a hard time finding a place that had 6 in the same size/color. I ended up getting them from Dick Blick.

| Boy, if I thought it would do any good I'd call in a heartbeat for ya. That is ridiculous! I take it you are an art major. Do you have to do a show? |
