| Road Trip to Florida! We are leaving on a 39 hour road trip to Orlando, Florida on May 1st! We're taking our 1991 Toyota Previa van (this is our road trip vehicle!) that has 400,000 km! It's been to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, and all the little places on the way there! I am SO excited. I've been to Disney Land, but not Disney World. What are your favorites of Disney World? Did you go to the water parks? Which one is better? Also, what is the weather in FL in May? What type of clothes do people wear? We have to pack very light, so it's good to know exactly! There will be 6 of us in the van, leaving right after our finals end! Have any of your been on long road trips? How do you like it? What do you do to pass the time? Pray for a safe trip for us! I've included a photo of our journey! |

| Wow that is quite the trip girlie.. we come from Ontario for the winters.. we spend it in Zephyrhills florida.. and we are about an hour to orlando but not at busy times.. I have been to Disney but love the the rides and all the kids fun stuff.. LOL I am sure some one from Orlando will see your post and help you more then I can...but there is a wal mart close to disney.. you must find it.. they sell so so many disney products at such cheap prices compared to being at disney so for gifts for your selfs and for others go to walmart.. you will get directions when there..pj bottoms for example are like 10.00 and at disney they would be at least 30... our neice was staying right at disney and had rooms so we took them there to walmart to get stuff for there fridge as it would be so much cheaper to have you own pop and snacks in your room.. I can help as much as I can.. if you need me.. just pm me..we are heading north the the first part of june.. my hubby is home in canada now doing renvations.. this year I was smart and stayed here with the furkids as I could not do another summer of it all...and besides at home it is 0 which is 32 f... and I am at mid 80's.. you are going to have a lot of humitiy and possible rain here and there.. and warm weather... hot really.. if we are mind 80's now it is going to just get hotter... hope this helps a bit... anne |

Thank you so much! It must be nice to have a home in Canada and in the U.S.A.! Luck you! I will be bringing an umbrella, and will be searching for some poncho's before we leave at dollarama here, because I'm sure when the rain comes down, vendors will be selling them in Disney for $10.00+ .. yikes! Just think of the money that place makes! Oh well, it's totally worth it to see! I think we will definitely be checking out that Wal-Mart to buy some food and drinks! Thanks for the tip on the Disney souvenirs! I purchased some small tins of mints that you keep in your purse in Disneyland at Christmas time last year, and they are $3.50 each..for the smallest tin! But hey, I bought them so I shouldn't be complaining! This time at least I know that there are alternatives! Thanks again!!

| The weather will be WARM!!! Don't forget to visit Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure (in the same park) they are awesome! I love Epcot Center which is Disney and I would like to go to Animal Kingdom someday but as for Magic Kingdom, I haven't been there in 17 years. I have no desire to go there since I have no kids and I think its geared more towards kids, but you should have a blast at all the parks.... they are all fun! Have a GREAT trip! My longest car ride was from MASS to Myrtle Beach SC, it was 16 hours, We just cranked the radio and put the windows down, opened the sunroof and talked, laughed, joked, enjoyed the weather. It went pretty quick, esp the night hours.

| I have been to disney several times, usually once a yr for 2 weeks. I love all the disney parks they are all so different from each other but My favorite one is Epcot. Ive been to both waterparks and My favorite is typhoon lagoon. It is a real tropical atmosphere and they have a cool wave pool. Typhoon doesnt have some of the more daring waterslides that blizzard beach has so if you like water slides I would go to blizzard beach. Are you staying on Disney property? A great place to go shopping is Downtown Disney. Theres also some great restaurants there also. If you are interested I can give you some great sites with info about Disney and some forums. Oh another greaT Place to go in Orlando is Discovery Cove where you can swim with the dolphins. It is not part of Disney but a unique place to visit. Have fun and let us know how your vacation went

I really wish we could visit universal studios. I've heard it's a great time! Unfortunately we have to get back to school! Spring classes start May 12. So we are spending 5 days at Disney. Hopefully we will be able to go back again soon!

| Wow, that's a LONG road trip! Disney World is just the best! That's where I took all my family vacations as a kid! It will be very hot (and yet amazingly it will get a LOT hotter the closer to August you get!). My best tips/suggestions: keep hydrated! I know they're checking bags when you enter the parks though I'm not exactly sure what's allowed and not. If water bottles are then take some, if not, just take EMPTY bottles and fill them up there! (And of course bring snacks! They charge an arm and a leg for snacks!) They also offer something called Fast Pass, which you scan your ticket and at the designated time (it gives you a ticket with a time on it) it lets you skip most of the lines! So you can pick where you really want to go and if the lines are crazy you can use that and do something else in between! Above all else: HAVE FUN!

| The weather here is perfect! Pack what you'd wear in the summer there. Maybe bring a sweater or sweatshirt for evenings...maybe not, being from up north you may not think it's too cool in the evenings. When I first moved to Fl (25 yrs ago) I had a Residents pass & went ALL the time...now...no. So I can't help you there. However you MUST go to Cocoa Beach for a day (It's about 10 min from my house). Beautiful. Last edited by luvfla; 04-22-2009 at 04:39 AM. |

| Hey Everyone!! We are back from Florida and had an AMAZING time! The weather was absolutely gorgeous the entire time we were there. I'm not used to the hot humid weather at all so it took a few days, but it was really nice! Disney World was so much fun. My feet are really sore now though! We went for 5 days in a row so we are all pretty pooped now! We packed all of our lunches and snacks and saved a TON of money. It is insane how much you can save by not eating out. Thank you all for your suggestions and comments! My fiance loved it so much that now he wants to move there! Go figure! The drive was awesome, really beautiful and green! I just loved Georgia and all the peach signs everywhere! Also, St. Louis was really neat! Can't wait to do it all again! I will probably post some photos once I have a minute! Thanks again everyone! |
