| Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday?? they run the show 2x in NYC and i caught the 7pm show regarding the Katrina disaster .. i was in tears throughout the entire show.... Im just in shock at how this was allowed to happen. She also talked about pets left behind and they showed how one man didnt want to leave without his dog.. they are transferring ppl to other shelters and now pets are allowed in the buses so he was opting to stay behind if his dog couldnt go. But Oprahs crew.. that designer that was in the Tsunami and he lost his boyfriend in the ordeal well he offered to transport his dog and another dog that he came across and eventually reunite them and it happened!! i was so happy to see that. Just to think of the many pets that are being left behind b/c they arent allowed to take them is so heart breaking just had to vent ... THIS GOVERNMENT SUCKS..

| Yes I watched it, it is UNBELIEVABLE, that, that can happen in the US, and all those people,,, and all the animals, they said they find alot of animals dead still tied to trees and dog boxes,,that KILLS me,, let em go, give me a chance to survive. I think Oprah is going to have it on there again today.

| ya part two .. the woman was crying throughout the whole show.. he eyes were super watery... im sure shes donating as much as she can .. all these rich billonaires should put their money where their mouthes are and HELP OUT.... it just sickens me how so many rich ppl out there can do so much to help out not just here now.. but in other aling countries... i also caught a glimpse of the Bill Maher show on HBO last nite and boy he was preaching the truth.. I read in the news papers that Kanye West on is telethon said that BUSH DOESNT CARE FOR BLACK PPL... nothing farther from the truth ... We are supposed to be in the 21st century where supposedly "everyone is equal" but thats just a falsehood. Just so depressing to see that we have 3 more years with this A-hole as our president i wonder what else is gonna go wrong in the up coming years. What blows my mind is that THIS SORT OF DISASTER WAS PERDICTED ... ppl knew what could happen to N.O. it ever a major flooding storm would hit and nothing was done as preventative percausions... its the whole .. we will deal with it when the time comes attitude that has killed thousands of ppl...

| Very good show. I saw it it was really good. I liked what NGC reporter Lisa Ling said about would the response been the same if it had been in an affluent white neighborhhod? She is supposed to have another good on location show today. I love Bill Mauher too. I watch it every week. I have to change the channel when I see the pets that have been left behind, it kills me. I have been surfing the net today to see where and what I can donate for the pets that were left behind. From what I understand the Kanye West comment was spurred by these two captions and pictures in this link you can see here http://www.salon.com/news/feature/20.../index_np.html

| What bothered me the most was the lack of security at the evacuation centers that a baby was raped!!!!!! How can someone do that to an infant? What kind of monster would do that? I have to lay off the news channels for a couple of hours because I just can't stomach it anymore. I think I'm all cried out. It's comforting (though) that we're all helping! The government didn't react as quick as possible to prevent the escalating number of deaths but at least the country has shown so much support to the victims. |

| I agree the show was good but I disagreed on several points. If you think back to 9-11 after the bombing had taken places thousands of people walked...walked home, not knowing if more was to come or not. The people in New orlenes could have left (they had several days notice). I can say for myself not matter what, had I known what was comming I would have walked with all my babies in tow just to try and get out to somewhere safe. Many of these people stayed, even with warnings and waited for someone else to come and get them. Also many people that did try and come in to help people were SHOT at. I am sorry, but I cannot think of another disater, where resuce workers were putting their lives on the line becasue the people they were trying to help took out a gun and used them for target practice. Yes I understand that not everyone did this, however to say it was only the governments problem is ridiculous. I would dare say had it been in an afflunt white neighborhood, or any afflent neighborhood for that matter had the rescuees been shoting at the rescuers it would have slowed down the process. Instead of trying to place blame on people for a natural disater we should be helping, people should put away their stupid artilery and instead of taking target at those trying to help, also get up and try to encourage oters to help as well. Babies raped, people killed for no reason other than greed or selfishness. President Bush did not cause these people to act like this, they did it. Not everyone, but a few have obviously slowed down the many. Stop placing blame on an administration, I am sure no matter who was in office the situation would have been similar. This was not about politcs, it was mother nature and her fury. Like I said, I would have left, and I mean that. I also had family that lived there that lost everything except their lives, and no, not all of them had transportation, in fact my uncle his wife and 4 children did walk out, becasue it was all they could do.

| Oprah It was so sad. It made me just hug my little puppy and tell him how much I loved him. If I didn't live in a tiny New York apartment, I would definelty take in someone and a pet. |

You mentioned that you would have walked away from N.O. with your family with a few days notice of a hurricane. You should be quite thankful you are able to- many of the people left behind in N.O. weren't as fortunate. There were thousands of elderly people or people with disabilities that weren't able to. Where was the goverment with busses to help these people evacuate? I have a great aunt who is 91- a real spit-fire- if she were in N.O. she would be dead at this point because she can't drive and needs a cane to walk. What else could she do but stay in her home? No one was shooting at people trying to help other evacuate before the flooding. The people of New Orleans would not be experiencing what they are if it were just for Katrina. I love Bill Clinton, but he and George H.W. and our good-for-nothing current president all took money out of the budget to strengthen the levees (as they all knew it could only uphold a category 3 hurricane) and placed it elsewhere. Bush put the money toward building a bridge to a remote island in Alaska. The hurricane was powerful- but the winds and rain were more than survivable- look at many of the houses- they're damaged, but still standing. It is the government's problem. As I mentioned earlier, it was a known fact that the levees needed to be strengthened and for more than a decade, the money to repair it was shifted elsewhere. It wasn't the people of N.O. that voted to have the money go elsewhere- they had no say. It is also the government's responsibility to help and serve its people. To leave them stranded with no food, no water, and insufficient law-enforcement is dispicable. IMO, yes, the president did cause these people to act this way. If you put that large a number of people together, scare the hell out of them, give them no information on the conditions, provide them with no food or water, then that is going to happen. It's the animalistic instinct in people coming out. No one can imagine the conditions these people were forced to live in for days. We are a civilized country with leading technology and somehow nothing could get to these people for days? The NASA space shuttle got to the moon in about the time our goverment got the needed supplies to New Orleans- isn't that a problem?? Not to mention that Bush said he didn't realize the hurricane would be as bad as it was. I've said this before, but I knew on Sunday that they were predicting a category 5 hurricane to hit New Orleans. That IS bad. Another member here said he was golfing when the hurricane was on land. He is the leader of our country, and he took his sweet time getting back to work for these poor suffering people down there. Two days it took him to get back to Washington- how many more people would have survived if they had food or water sooner? I'm sorry, but I can't think of another human being I know who as president would have let thousands starve while vacationing. He should be ashamed as the president, a fellow American, and as a human being.

Sorry, bettyanne, but I don't think it's right to insinuate that everyone who was left in N.O. wasn't intelligent to know to leave. Thousands were elderly and those living with disabilities were physically NOT ABLE to leave. For the people that are able-bodied and chose not to leave, yes, it wasn't the smartest decision. But the entire population of people that chose not to leave wasn't stupid. What about single mothers with more children than could be carried? Would you expect a young child to walk 40 or 50 miles to safety? Be thankful your friends were able to evacuate- some weren't so lucky.
