Laminate floor cloudy... Need suggestions - YorkieTalk.com Forums

My laminate floor is driving me crazy!!! No matter what I clean it with it looks cloudy and streaky. I have tried all kinds of cleaners, I've searched the Internet and read to use vinegar and water, but nothing works. It always looks cloudy. I went to menards and asked the flooring guy and he guided me to a product but that didn't help either. The floor is about 3 years old. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and does anyone else have this problem?

Have you tried just using a steam cleaner without any product? That is what I use on mine (The Shark) and it works great!!

I was going to suggest vinegar and water but looks like you already tried it. Hmmmmm...... that's all I know that worked so great on my bathroom floor. Let us know if you find anything better!

I use the shark steam mop too. works great!

[B] Hi. I had the same problem. Originally had been using the wet swifter and over time it left a film. This is what I did and now it is great. I (on my hands and knees used just water). I did this a few times until I knew all the film was off. After I dried it and then used Bruce's Floor cleaner for laminates. It worked perfect. Now all I do is damp mop it with a terry cloth towel and let it air dry. I do this a few times a week and then once a week I use Bruce's Floor cleaner for laminates. It is perfect. Just like new again.

I didn't think the Shark was safe on laminates? I'm pretty sure if you read the box it said not for laminate floors? I would think the steam would lift the flooring. Elaine

I thought it was safe on all floors, but I will double check the box.

I had a friend who used a automatic hard surface floor cleaning machine on her laminate floors, within about 2 years the finish was all bubbly and damaged from the machine. I think it was the steam like you suggest.

I use the microfiber cloths with just plain water on my hands and knees with mine. It looks great all of the time and no streaking with those cloths. I think those were the greatest inventions.

I use vinegar and water with the microfiber cloths on my hands & knees too. Other cleaners will make your floor dull. I have had my floor over 8 years and it still looks new. I would call the floor manufacture and ask them for help.

There is prob. a film build up making it appear cloudy I would try the Vin and water a few times to get it all up. than I would alternate between that and what I use which is by a company called Method, they now make a lamanate floor cleaner and it is all natural, so it wont harm the pups

I'm copying and pasting a post that I made a while back when someone asked about this issue.....

Okay, when we first moved in to our house, before moving the furniture in I cleaned the entire house (all Armstrong laminate with tile in the bathrooms) with a Swiffer wetjet. The next morning I come in ready to move in furniture and the floors looked awful! All streaky and dull! So I went out and bought a Hoover Hard floor cleaner which worked fairly well for a year or so until it broke. The floors were really never as streak-free as I would have like though using that machine. Then finally someone told me about Bona X. Here's a link to one I found just so you can see it but I get mine from my local hardware store. They make hardwood AND laminate stuff.

I've had the same stick thing with microfiber pad for at least a year and it is still in perfect shape - wash the pad in the washing machine (with no fabric softener) and throw it in the dryer. The spray goes a long way too.

Just last week my mom emailed me and said that two ladies she works with were talking about how they couldn't get their laminate floors streak-free so she asked me what I use and passed it on to them. One of them called her office phone to leave her a message at 10:00 that night SO excited because she had gone out and bought it that evening and was so impressed. The true test for me is that one side of my house is almost all windows and in the afternoon the floor is very much on display..... not a streak to be seen!

I hope everyone with laminate floors will find this product as wonderful as I have!

Seems there are other products out there that are very similar but I think the most important part is the microfiber pad!

I looked at the product info and it states safe for all types of flooring except for Unsealed woods and waxed floors. I have been using mine for over a year with no issues. I always go over it with a micro fiber mop though because sometimes there are water droplets left behind.

I know exactly what you mean, I tried everything to clean mine with and they still were cloudy. We also had other problems with the flooring and we finally took them out and put ceramic tile in which I LOVE...

I forgot to mention the microfiber pads. Also, I got the system from Home Depot. It was by Bruce and it is for Laminates. And, in between using a damp microfiber pad I also use the dry one daily to get all the dust up. Most of the time I have to use the damp because my one Yorkie (Lilly) seems to like to go and piddle. ARGH. This really is the main reason for going to laminates rather then carpet and also the reason I chose laminates over wood. I was told the wood would stain and scratch where the laminates are tougher. I hope so we went for $5,000 on them. On an upside my allergies have improved dramatically. Elaine
