| Advice needed on DVR? Hi guys, I have been wanting to record some TV shows on TV. We tried Tivo and didn't work with our cable company. There are $20 per month renting thing through my cable company but I think it is a little expensive.... thinking that is a monthly additional expense. Do you guys have any suggestion?

YT 500 Club Member | We have a DVR through Dish Network. I love it, and it is VERY easy to use. I have little skill with computers, but I can run it quite easily. I record nearly everything I watch. We can set it to record the same show every time it is on, which saves us from setting it daily. I wouldn't be without one.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Are you sure they are $20.00 more? What I mean is there is a basic charge for a box, and the DVR part didn't seem like that much more. We have several DVR boxes, and I think for the high definition TV, it's more that the regular TV, but I don't believe it that much. I love it by the way. Sometimes it's fun to save up a series and watch a whole bunch of shows at one time. I never have to leave YT for a program.

| OOps that was $15 more... my bad. Do you think it is reasonable? HD Converter Box with DVR (HD/DVR) (additional boxes $14.95/mo) Get all the 100% digital channels included in your package (with Dolby Digital surround sound), the interactive program guide, and access thousands of hours of free programming with Video ON DEMAND. You'll also receive brilliant HD channels and the ability to order HD VOD movies. And with a built-in DVR you can pause, rewind and record live TV.

| We have a DVR and TIVO with DirectTV and I love it. Could not live without one now. Not only that but I can pause live TV if the phone rings or for whatever reason I want and come back to continue watching where I left off. Once you get all of your favorite programs set up to record automatically, you don't even have the think about it. On my DVR I can rewind a live tv program or press to record it in full if I decide I want to keep it or finish watching it at a later time. Does the $20 they want to charge you include the TIVO service and the DVR? That would make more sense.

I just wanted to add, they give you the program guide, and that a $10 or more charge with some companies.

| I should really seriously consider it. My bill (internet cable and tv cable) was close to $200 and I cancelled a lot of channels.. Now it is about $100. I guess using RCN's dvr might not be that bad option..

| Does that include the TIVO service? We have a DVR but have to pay $4.95 month for TIVO service through DirectTV. I think if you pay for it through TIVO it's $14.95. My DVR will record both first run episodes and repeats if you want both. You can also set it up to record an entire series or just one episode. I can also designate how many episodes I want my recorder to keep. I look at it as I did when the microwave first came out. What am I going to cook in it? Couldn't live without one now....and don't laugh. Yes, I was around when the microwaves hit the market!!!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If you get the box through the cable company that includes everything, you don't need a TIVO, and TIVO's "service" is basically a program guide, which comes free with the cable box.

yea, I would love to have DVR, I am always trying to make it home to watch my shows and sometimes I am on YT and don't pay enough attention to my shows like I would like to. but my cable company also charges quite a bit more for one of these boxes, I guess i am to cheap to pay the extra money....LOL | |

| I have comcast. Box with HD and DVR and on demand. I love it. It's about $160 a month for me and that includes HBO, HD and cable plus my internet service. I don't know that I could live without my DVR and on demand now that I've experienced it. LOL
