Donating YT 11K Club Member | Just let my nails grow again So i have always bit my nails since i can remember, like really really short...i had none basically. Anyway i just let them grow again. I let them grow really long last yr but one broke and i bit the rest. So now they are growing again and i wanted to know what i can do to make them not break? Also last yr they turned yellow because i was painting them so much with darker colors and everytime i would change the colors i noticed they were yellow underneath. Is there anything i can put on them under the nail polish or something? i dont want them to turn yellow when i paint them..

| I have my cosmetologist liscence and in beauty school I learned to to put a base coat on before the color so the nail will not turn yellow. I would also reccomend using a nail stregnthening clear coat to prevent them from breaking.

| A lot of people love Nailtiques to strengthen nails. I would think it would work as a base coat but not sure. You can get it at Target.

| There is a base coat available that prohibits your nails from turning yellow - but I can't remember what it is called. Always use a base coat - it helps your polish last longer, too!!!! Sailly Hansen Hard as Nails works well, and nothing beats eating plain gelatin (or yummy jello) to help strengthen as well!!!

I have a nail biting problem too... I'll let them grow some, but then I get this uncontrollable urge to bite and I can't stop myself. Before I know it, my nails are gone.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | Same here, Ashley! I've always been envious of people with long nails.

| They should make a 12 step program for nail biting.

| There is a product called Nailtiques Nail protein. Its the best product Ive ever seen/used for strengthening nails. Good Luck! I bit my nails sooooooo bad until I was 22. They were disgusting. I got a manicure from a friend who was a manicurist, she took and hour and made my hands look great, then painted my TEENY TINY nails in a dark green color. I was embarrassed by how stupid they looked and never bit them again. BUT i still bite my cuticles... arrggg old habits die hard. I used nailtiques after I stopped biting and it helped them grow alot. You can't use polish with it though. If you plan to paint your nails with dark colors, use a base coat on the nail under the polish color.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm going through it now I've use acrylic nails for SO long that I just decide, that since DH is having surgery next week, and we're going to be so broke, I'd cut out all unecessary spending...lol... so off they came, and they are so sad looking. I used NailTigues clear. You put a coat on every day for a week, remove and repeat. It's like 10.00 per bottle,my nail guy sold it to me. I'll let you know. I just got a Valentine birthstone ring from my DH and my nails are yucky...oh well. It'll get better...plus they hurt so bad ,they're so thin from years. Good Luck..You're not alone..Just think how lovely they'll be at the Virgina meet up...We'll have to admire each other nails...lol

| I rub 100 % Vitamin E oil into my cuticles every night at bedtime and it works wonders. My nails grow like weeds. I cut them most every week. You can usually buy it at the pharmacy in a little bottle with an applicator. You can also buy the capsules in the vitamin section and break them open but I find I waste more that way. |
