| New Year's traditions Does anyone have any New Year's traditions to bring in the new year with "lucK"? My family always has a really good pork roast with saurkraut (icky). Also, a family friend from Ecuador told us to eat 12 grapes for luck in each month of the year, put a dollar in your shoe and wear the shoe all day for wealth, and to wear red underwear to find or keep love. It's really silly, but I think it's fun!

| We just hang out with our friends and their kids. We eat good food and play board games. Good clean fun. Nothing that a lot of people would find overly exciting, but we love it! We usually laugh and laugh all evening and usually get pulled over on the way home, lol. I love the look on the officers face when they see 2 sober people and 6 kids in the van sleeping at 1 am, lol. We live in a small town and on new years eve pretty much everyone gets pulled over after midnight. I like that they really crack down like that.

| Wow! those are all interesting, and I've not heard of any of them. We eat Black Eyed Peas for luck. But I didn't buy any this year. So I guess it's bad luck all year long for us. Eh, I don't care. LOL.... We'll drink Champagne at Midnight, so maybe that'll counteract the bad luck of not having Black Eyed Peas this year. Last edited by MyLadies; 12-31-2008 at 10:07 AM. |

| We have some crazy traditions..lets see We do: -The twelve grapes at midnight -We grab luggage and run around the block, this brings more traveling in the upcoming year. -We sweep the door step to sweep off any bad things that might have come into the house during the year -We get balloons that both say 2008 and 2009. At midnight we pop all the 2008 balloons and make a wish as we let go of all the 2009 balloons. - We do an extensive cleaning of the house and then take a bath in lavender and roses. This is to cleanse ourselves from the bad things of the previous year. - We must buy entirely new outfits to wear in order to start the new year in a new pair of clothes. This gives luck for new things. -The whole family must wear the same color underwear. I have no clue why, but my mom strictly enforces it and even checks everyone.

| Lol nahh we usually finish up within an hour, but our neighbors do get a kick out of it, they think we are a little nuts The extensive cleaning we did it this morning, and the bath we are going to do it before the party tonight.

| We have a pretty leather large box by the fire place and all year long we toss odds and ends into it.... movie stub, lasar tag game with names of who went, notes left to each other on the counter, drawn pictures, art work, notes from teachers, school work, newspaper article and sometimes i just write a paragraph about something someone said or did..... then news years eve we look at everything in our box and enjoy the memories of that year... then we play our traditional monopoly game.....watch the ball fall on tv .... go out on our deck with noise makers..... |

| Alot of these traditions sound very fun...I haven't heard of some of them. I may add some of those to ours The only thing we really do is get together with friends and @ midnight we Toast, Drink Champagne ,and kiss for one minute past midnight. Then we have a fun fireworks show . Everyone tells and toast one wish for the upcoming year. It's just a very fun family , kid friendly time. The kids all get poppers and glow sticks and silly string ,hats and stuff .I think I may add the balloons this year....that sounded like fun. We use to go to Planned parties ( like you but tickets for ) but they were never as fun as when we have them at home or a friends house. So we haven't went to those kinds in years . I think I will also start the dollar in the shoe tradition....can't hurt

I think your traditions are really cute and funny . We go to church every New Years Eve at about 6pm and are there till about 12:15. On New Years day we take down all the Christmas decorations. And since my father is from the south we have a southern dinner...chicken, corn bread, and either pinto beans or black eyed peas.
