| Don't Want to Start a Controversy, but I'm PUZZLED Why is it that so many people will feed their large dogs crappy food or store brand food while they feed their Yorkies or other toy breeds premium foods? Are large dogs not as special or beautiful? and why can large dogs be in the yard alone while Yorkies can't? why is it OK to leave your Great Pyrenees in the car while you run in for coffee, but if you did it to a Yorkie, you would be castrated? The same goes for Yorkie vs. Spaniel or Yorkie vs. whatever other medium breed. Why do people love their Yorkies more? I don't understand the Large breed/small breed distinction at all. I had a Lab that I loved DEARLY. More than anything. I would never treat Stewie any differently or "better" because he is smaller or "cuter".

| I agree! I have 2 80 pound yellow labs that we treat just the same. I do admit they dont get the natural chioce or anything cause they eat sooo much but they do get a good food from our local feedlot. They dont live in the house but they do have a concrete slabwith a fence with 2 dog runs and a tarp over the top for shade. I love all my dogs and try not to treat them different but as with everything you do to a point because my Mason is only 2 pounds and I can carry him everywhere, but with Sissy and Bo id need to eat alot of wheaties to carry one of them let alone both of them. I dont think people really mean to treat there dogs different if there different in size, I guess its just "easier" with a small dog like a yorkie! Kristy and Mason |

| i had a golden before i had toby and i have to say yes i do treat them differently. Not in the manner of what you are talking baout (leaving them in the car, ect....) BUT i have to say that i am much more fearful with toby, and i think it has to do with the fact that i lost my other dog (old age) and i dont want anything to happen to toby. This is detrimental to him in a way, because with my other dog she was allready allowed to go offleash with me and she would stay right beside, toby is just now getting his "offleash training" and it is sketchy because i waited so long. there are many things that i do differently with toby than i ever did with josie and vice versa. |

| Just my opinion . When a person have a dog , no matter the size or the breed , this dog need to have what is better in life . Dogs are so loyal to humans and humans who are not responsible with them , it is a real shame . |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I totally agree. Maybe people see that yorkies are smaller...or chihuahuas or whatever and think that they are more delicate than a larger dog and therefore treated different. I don't think that it's right but could be their reasoning.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Honey - I don't know what to tell you - I have Tessa my cocker - she wears clothes ...gets hand fed & is never left outside - when my yorkie girls go out -she goes out - she is never left in the car and never left alone in the house -When they get baths - she gets a bath - they get treats - she gets her treat. We went to a yorkie meetup and she came with us - she's never been alone.... We actually treat all 3 the same - she's 30 pounds and to me is just as important as my yorkies - So ALL people aren't like that - I do hate the dogs I see tied up outside all day and night - I had a neighbor that did that with a rott and that dog was MEAN - the purpose was for protection - but I don't feel the poor dogs I see tied up should be used for Burglar alarms... If people want to protect their homes - let the dog INSIDE ...I feel they'll bark and do a good job AND be out of the elements - I agree ....that is wrong. Now if a dog perfers to be outside and has freedom - that's cool - but not tied up....and NEVER left in a car. |

| My big dogs get premium dog food and great vet care! As some of you know, cinder has $7000.00 knees! They do stay outside most of the time though, except in winter. They would be miserable inside as much as Lexy is! They are big labs and I'm not afraid anyone will steal them. Also, they can better protect themselves if another dog came into the yard. That is the only difference though! I will admit I'm not as attached to Layla as I am to Cinder and Lexy, though. However, I do love her and give her a lot of attention, and if she ever needed vet care, I'd get her the very best!

| Ok i have a choc lab of 11 months, she is PRECIOUS all the way, i love her madly, she acts like "mother hen" over her longhaired fursisters, she is SO gentle with them, they can bite her ears and hang in her tail and she just accepts it all, i have to reprimand the little girls and tell them to STOP IT! Dounia (lab) gets the SAME quality food and when the little ones get a new toy she NEVER gets left out, if one gets a treat, they ALL get a treat, Dounia sleeps IN our bedroom and when we take her in the car, there is NO way she gets to stay in there while we get out, we take her for swims to the lake "thats Dounia time" as we call it, because she loves water and swimming! We have a blast while we watch her play and swim, she has so much humor, she cracks us up!! The difference between her and our yorkies is that she acts like a real dog, yorkies are BABIES all the way, so yes we pick them up and sit with them on our laps, dress them up and fuss over them 24/7 but apart from that, Dounia means as much to us all, and is loved all the same!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OMG that picture is GREAT with the pacifier ! Tessa is the same way with the girls - they tag team her and she fake growls and they ADORE it when she plays with them - the hanging on her ear thing isn't too cute to her but she's always a great sport and knows just how to make the right noises where they KNOW she means "time to stop !" She's never ever snapped or been rough - but she DOES do a great Gangsta Face when she needs it |

| LOL Villette, i thought ide add that pic to show how nuts she is, im serious, she is NUTS and these little ones also know exactly how to trigger her off, Dounia has a lion that she "adopted" the first night she came home with us, she sleeps with it, if she cant find it, she WONT go to sleep, so in the middle of the night, ill be on hand and knees all over the place looking for HER lion, thats the only thing she doesnt like to share, Chelsey and especially Chanel likes to tease her and grab hold of HER lion so she chases them all over the house, it goes up to the bedroom at night and comes down with her in the morning, thats when she puts it in her crate for safe keeping, till these little ones get hold of it lol Im already thinking what i can give her to replace THAT lion when its all delapidated lol

| I don't know Kristy, I've wondered the same thing sometimes. I personally think that toy dogs maybe have a more delicate constitution. They can be finicky eaters and their bones are more delicate. Their coats require more attention. They don't shed so they need to be groomed and brushed. We live on a cul-de-sac and 1/2 of my neighbors have large dogs that live outside all the time. I think the dogs are kept up in the garage each night and sleep there. It makes sense to me as long as the dog is kept groomed (nails trimmed, anal glands, baths, brushing, etc.) and gets regular vet checks and shots. And as long as the dog isn't starving for attention and is played with each day, then I think a large dog is probably happy like that. Both of my in-door dogs love to go outside and would spend all day out there as long as I was with them. If I had a large dog I'd never feed it a poor quality food. The thing I object to is a dog who is kept chained next to it's dog house on a 4 foot square patch of dirt 24/7 and never gets to run or play and has no companionship whatsoever. People who do this should have never gotten the dog in the first place. I pass by a Dalmation fairly often and it lives like that and it looks so sad! IMO, that's no way to treat a pet.

| In Chicago it is illegal to have a dog NOT sleep in your home. You can't have dogs sleep in dog houses outside, kennels outside or the garage (unless it is attached to your home, which is NOT common here). I think that may have something to do with my puzzling.

| I dont think all people are like that. I have always had larger dogs, most of which have been the dobies. I treat them just like I do any other dog. They are inside dogs, (only go out to go pee and play) sleep on my couch and bed with me , Jerry and Bridget, trust me this get a bit hard at times. I feed them great dog food, it is made of food grade meats and veggies. Spoil them rotten with toys and treats, trust me Scarlet actully gets more toys than Bridget because she destroyes them quicker. And I love them just as much. Now I do not dress her, the one time I did buy her something she looked at me with eyes that said, ok are we done now, this is soooo stupid! I would also never , ever leave her in a car. I know some people just dont do that, and yes I agree it is wrong, unfortunatly no where is there a law that says they cant tie them up outsde or has to feed them great food. In fact I am always yelling at people about dog food. Here many feed their dogs the SAMs Choice brands at Walmart. There is NO, i repeat no nutriional value at all in that food. I cannot believe they can even sell it! But htey do, and there is nothing I can do except try to inform them, sadly many just tell me to mind my own buisness.
