| There was a house break in two homes down... Someone broke into a house two doors down from me. This made me VERY worried becauseI have always felt that my neighborhood is very safe. I have always felt comfortable being home alone if my husband was working late... Luckily, no one was home and it seems they didn't take much... Anyhow, they had a brand new kitten. When the woman came home, her back sliding glass door was open and her kitty was gone... (They haven't found her) So this got me thinking about Esme. She is completely house trained, so we let her roam free. I am so paranoid now. If someone was to break into our home, Esme would be let out! I almost didn't sleep last night thinking about it, and I worried about it all day at work. We have an alarm system, so if someone was to try to break in, it would go off and call the police, but what about Esme? I never thought about this before until yesterday, and now I am so worried.

| Has the alarm ever gone off before?? What does Esme do?? Would she coward in the corner? Where did they break in from? Usually they use a window and Esme wouldn't be able to get out of a window?? Anyhow, after two break ins in the same neighborhood, I doubt it will happen again.. Don't Worry, Be Happy I'm sure all will be alright

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | oh wow...that's so scary - My sons apartment got broken into ...he has 2 weiner doggies and a neighbor found them just wandering around and took them in till my son could get home - maybe the kitten is safe with a neighbor ? We just had tons of driveway robberies in my neighborhood and the cops took down another suspect who was trying to get into my next door neighbors house at 10:30 in the morning ! The girls and I were right there watching the cops take down this kid who had jumped my fence - Chanel REALLY had alot to spy on that day - No neighborhood is truly safe and its a terrible world we're living in these days - there is WAY too many people who just want what you have and will steal anything if they can. It's so sad and makes me so worried for OUR children if it's not controlled better. Esme MAY hide if she saw someone in your house or heard noises - Mine would if a stranger was inside I think..... Also ...notify your neighbors that you need to be contacted ASAP for anything if it happens - leave your numbers with the ones that may be home when your not - and PRAY.

| Well, our siren, is outside, so you can hear it inside when it goes off, but it isn't so loud that she minds it. When it's gone off before, she's been fine, but that could be because it's usually my husband and I that accidently set it off and we are calm about it, so she's calm. We have portrait windows in our home that go all the way to the ground... I hadn't even thought of someone breaking in through one of those! I was just thinking about the front door or back patio doors... It's only been one break in... hopefully it will stay that way! When she got home, her sliding glass door was open. I am not sure if thats how they came in through, but it seems that's how they left...

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I was just as clueless about that as you were...I have never even thought about that....we live in the country but you still never know what might happen...and knowing my girls they would go and try and talk to who came in the house!!! That is really scary....

hi mari its wierd i should get up this morning and read your new thread because ive had the same fear latley we are in a small rural community and had a break in a few doors down last year they didnt have dogs so they were ok there but i did hear of a break in where the dog was stolen and its made me worry now when i go out and leave my other dogs. At the moment my yorkie baby goes everywhere with me i guess the only thing we could do for a bit of piece of mind is install security cameras but how much would that cost? i really don`t know what the answer is for complete piece of mind. any way i just wanted to let you know that we all share the same fears. dianne and prudence | |

| This is why I BEG that people leave tags on their dogs, even when they are home AND ESPECIALLY when they are left alone!!!! You just NEVER know when something might happen! Case in point! (Dismounts from soapbox)
