| S.O.S. Hair Emergency, any stylists out there? I made a mistake coloring my hair and now have very brassy color (bleached dark blond hair). I can't afford a salon fix right now. I ordered a product called Red Gold Corrector Plus (Ardell brand). It comes in a 7 ml. bottle. It says to add to color or toner, or, add to shampoo. I want to add to my shampoo, but it does not say how much/ratio or how long to leave it on. I read stories on line about people leaving toner on too long and ending up with purple hair. Does anyone know how many drops of this stuff to add to how much shampoo and how long to leave it on for? How often to use it? The instructions don't say. Can someone please help me? Thanks.

| Does it not tell on the bottle what ratio to mix it? Most products do. I had a mishap with some dye not too long ago. It was the new L'oreal Dream Blonde dye and it burned my scalp so it ended up being very brassy. I used Shimmer Lights (purple bottle) from Sally's Beauty Supply, it helped some but not a lot. I think I also tried a toner which did tone down on the brassy color. Have you thought about going to Sally's to get a toner? It wouldn't cost much, I think it cost me like... at the most $10.

| I am a hairdresser but I'm not familiar with that product- I would guess with shampoo to add 2-3 drops. If you decide to go w/a toner, I would spray a product like "it's a 10" in it first that way the ends don't suck up the color of the toner, if you get in a bind just pm me.

| Thanks for your help. The box only gives directions for mixing with toner or color. It says you can put it in shampoo but it does not say how much to use. I tried 20 drops in one ounce or so of conditioner, applied to damp hair and left it for 15 minutes. It toned it down a bit. I then shampooed mixing 20 drops with the ounce or so of shampoo, that did not do anything. I bought some purple tint shampoo at the drug store, that seemed to help a bit also. Maybe if I add this color corrector to that? Maybe I will go to the beauty supply store and look for the shimmer lights. I feel like such a fool. I used a dark blond first, that ended up orange. After reading online, I used a light ash blond. That toned it down quite a bit, but still too red for me. My hair won't take another bleach processing. I bought a light brown color with no peroxide. Do you think that might do the trick. My natural color is dark blond to light brown, kind of a mousy ugly color. I was trying for the medium ash blond I loved when I was younger. I used to color my hair all the time and never had a problem. Word of warning. If you have brownish hair and want to go lighter, go to the salon. Trying to fix a mistake ends up costing as much if not more.

| There is something that you could possibly try that's a old true wives tale if you would like to try to see if you can get the color to come out try washing it with the blue dawn- original (just once) if you do it more than once you would have to put a good deep conditioner on it. If you can't then I do think you ought to try to color over it, I use the loreal majirel, richesse professional line but I am very familiar with the clairol (used it in beauty school) from sally's, when we had someone come into the school w/a problem like this we usually always put 86 or 87n on it from this line (it says gray busters on the bottle but that doesn't matter) I also had a friend that I had to tell to do this over the phone after she had a mess-up & hers came out perfect. Since I don't know exactly if you have any blonde in it or not I wouldn't rec. you putting anything ash based in it since that might make it drab on the ends, the color I told you about (86n or 87n depending on your level) is neutral based & if you go to sallys they actually have the clairol book in the store so you can see the swatches. If you have anykind of reconstructer product like it's a ten or redken cat spray that in the ends (not dripping just dampen) don't rinse & apply your color then do a deep conditioner, I like the it's a ten hair mask or joico k-pak. oh b/f I forget I'm referring to the ms clairol at sally's that's in the bottle----I'm gonna pray to the color god's for you .... Tiff

| I had a hair dying mishap last year (died my hair from dark brown to bleached blonde and it looked hooooorible). I was so miserable, I did a bad thing, and just redyed it back to my natural color. It didn't harm my hair any... it just made it a little more dry and I started shedding my hair a little more.

Whenever I had my mishap with my dye from the drugstore, I made an appointment a few weeks later and had it colored darker. I then waited around a month or a little longer until it had faded a tad and had it highlighted. It takes time to get to that lighter color you're possibly wanting to achieve but at least your hair won't be dead from processing it yourself. HTH!!
