| Parents 25th Wedding Anniversary! Help! My parents will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on November 12. My mom has been hinting for years that she would like some sort of celebration. I want it to be a surprise party but I am somewhat limited on my money but I would like to do something nice for them. I want to throw a party at the house and have a nice dinner with a lot of family and friends. The thing is that I would like to give them a cruise to go along with the party. I looked it up earlier and managed to find a Balcony room on 4 star cruise for 4 nights for $600 for both of them. It seems great but with the party I don't have that kind of money. I was thinking that maybe instead of people bringing a gift they could put $10 per person towards the cause. The only thing is that I am not sure how to go about doing this. I need to send out the invitations soon and I would like some suggestions. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! I have a budget of about $700 to make all this happen. There will be about 40 people, I will be cooking so I am figuring about $300 for food $100 for decorations. Then the rest for other things that may come up. Anyone have any ideas of things I can do for them? Inexpensive party favor ideas? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

| I don't know if this will be of any help, but for our honeymoon we went on a 2 week cruise. So, for our wedding we registered through honeyfund.com and instead of people buying us toasters or blenders they could go on our honeymoon registry and buy us portions of our cruise. It was totally free and it made it easier for people b/c they can use their credit cards through paypal. If you don't want to use a website I've heard of being able to set up a gift registry through travel agencies. I don't know if they charge any fees, but it would be worth looking into. When you send out the invitations just make sure to include where they are registered. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me! Oh, and I think it's wonderful what you're doing for your parents! |

| Oh, and I see you are in Miami. I have a great Miami based travel agent, but he works with Carnival. I'm not sure if you were going to use Carnival, but they have nice ships that leave out of Miami. If we book through him, as the cruise gets closer and they offer more discounts or upgrades, he'll automatically move us into the discounted rate or upgrade us so we get the best possible rate. Let me know if you were looking into Carnival and I'll give you his info! |

| My hubby and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary two years ago!!! The church we belong to has a Tuesday evening mass, which was the day our anniversary fell on. Since we were not originally married in the Catholic Church, I didn't have the same type of ceremony that I am used to now. I was able to select all three readings and all the music for the mass. The group that sing with did the music (and I sang most of the mass with them), my daughter and son read the Old Testament and New Testament readings and a dear family friend who is the Deacon, read the Gospel, gave the homily and did our vow renewal. After communion, I actually sang a solo - You're Still the One. For the dinner we had afterward, I purchased som recycled paper embedded with wild flower seeds (it was very inexpensive online), cut into large heart shapes and then using vellum paper (again very inexpensive) printed the words to "You're Still the One" followed by a message thanking everyone for coming and to plant the paper in remembrace of our love. I also made a music CD for each guest loaded with wedding appropriate music. I believe you can set up a plan with a travel agent where items can be paid for (like a gift registry) by guests and include that information with the invitations. I'm also thinking that you may be able to manage food for less than $300 if you did something like lasagna with salad/rolls. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
