| Arg i need help Ok so i'm pretty sure i'm going back to the Dominican Republic- same place i went in April... Orphanage Outreach- to teach English- this coming April with this year's students at The Faculty of Education, just this year i'll be leading the group. Anyways... my friend Teresa and I were supposed to lead this trip and now she is telling me she wants to bring her SON!!! He is going to be 14... I just don't think this is a good idea.... we are supposed to be leading this group of teachers for an experience that is for THEM.. and i honeslty think she will be really preoccupied being a mom while we are there instead of being a group leader. Plus he won't be able to sleep where we do as the boys and girls sleep in different buildings... I'm just really thinking this is a bad idea- her full focus will be on him and how the trip is going for him- which she should since he is her son but this is not what this trip is about.... am i overreacting? should i say something? And at the same time i think it will put more of the "work" on me... and the reason we are doing this together is because it is a HUGE job... *sigh* she didn't even ask me what i thought... |

| Hmmm...probably not the best idea to bring him. It also puts you in an awkward spot having to bring it up to her. yuk.

| What I would suggest is sitting down with her and having a heart to heart about the amount of work that will be involved for both of you and how having her child there will figure into the mix. Is this a trip that both of you privately fund or is it sponsored in some way? I would have the same concerns that you are having. This isn't a vacation and if she has to watch over and entertain her son, that's less time and focus for the real reason she is there. Plus that puts more work on you, which if it were me, would upset me! Good luck!

I would have a talk with her, that is kind of selfish to take that spot from someone else, IMO.

| What a terrible position to be in! That seems really unfair to you as well as the other teachers who are going and the one who wont be because of her son. Do you feel comfortable talking to her about it? To be honest I wouldn't be because I hate confrontation but if you are and don't think it would cause any problems long term then maybe you should. Could you talk to the person who is in charge of the whole thing? It sounds like something administration should deal with but I don't really understand the way things are set up. Sorry, I was zero help right?

| That sounds like a plan that can work! Just make sure you don't take on all the extra work!
