| Question for those that are breast feeding or have? Gavin is now 5 weeks old. I have been breast feeding him and hope to be able to up to a year old. We are trying to get him to take a bottle because he will be going to day care in a few months and it would be nice to have someone babysit for a few hours. The bottle is just not the same and having a hard time getting him to take it. Any suggestions on bottles or nipples? His doctor told me to try Advent. We are using Playtex drop ins with latex nipples. We bought some other nipples that are more like the breast nipple made of silicone, but he does not like those either. I can't remember the name of those. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

| OKay this has been my on going battle with Amelia for a good few weeks now. I'm trying to get her to take a bottle of expressed milk and we're sort of getting there. I've tried numerous brands of bottles... the only ONE that she will take is a Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature bottle. Closer to Nature® Anti-Colic Plus Bottles (pk 2) I would suggest someone that isn't you tries to introduce the bottle. Gavin will smell the milk on you and will automatically want to take from you instead of the bottle. Also, pick a time when he's not upset, not hungry and not sleepy. I discovered any of those of a combination makes it far from an easy task. If the best time to try him isn't went someone else is around then I would suggest folding a bath towel several times and putting it between you both to block the smell from him. I hope you have some success soon because I know myself how frustrating it is to try to get them to accept a bottle. Believe me, it's better to be persistant and keep trying. I tried, gave in, tried, gave in more times than I can count and now at 8 months I can't leave Amelia with anyone, she insists on me being the only one to give her comfort when she is upset or distressed or tired. Good luck and keep me updated or PM me if you need anything.

| Has anyone else tried to give your baby a bottle? Just curious because as Gypsy&Me said, babies know your scent and breast-fed babies will expect to be nursed when they're with mom but will often take a bottle easier from someone else. If this is the problem, just keep trying; like my pediatrician said, a baby will never willingly starve himself to death! If that's not the issue, just keep trying; eventually you'll find something that works out. My daughter was fine with the Playtex ones, and my son preferred the Nuk brand. All babies are different and develop different preferences. |

| The only ones I could get my son to take were the playtex drop ins.

| Definitely have someone else do the bottle feedings. You need to just leave the room or go for a walk while that's going on. Those babies are extremely good at picking up your scent. Each baby is different with which bottle they prefer. Also, you may switch to a faster flow nipple until he gets the hang of it. Are you using formula or BM?

| That's great! I was worried that you were trying to use formula. Lots of BF babies will refuse formula.

| It's been a long time since I breast fed - my youngest is 24. It is so nice to know that you are breast feeding your baby AND going taking the time and effort to pump milk so that your little one will have your milk. Way to go, mom! Caution about pumping, though, if you pump too much your milk supply will be more than your little one can handle and you will have the painful issue of readjusting your milk production.. My first son was a preemie who spent 21 days in the neonatal ICU. I pumped and froze breast milk. I had a freezer full of milk, the hospital's freezer was full - you would have thought I was a cow I was giving so much! Until we got everything figured out I was very uncomfortable - I had to quit pumping so much so that my supply would adjust to just what my baby needed. |

| We use Bornfree bottles you can get from Target. They just started carrying them. They have a spaecial insert that makes you do the double suck that happens during breast feeding. Its the only bottle Hunter will use. Best of luck. |

| I used the old fashioned Playtex bottle with the plastic bags with my daughter when I couldn't nurse. You might just have to try a few different types of nipples to figure out which one he likes. Good Luck. P.S I just wanted to add that I think it is GREAT that you are nursing!!!

| my friends and I call these the "boobie bottles" because they feel just like a breast. They are kinda expensive but if you are only using the bottle once in a while like we do, then they are very nice to have and Olivia has no problem taking to this just like she does the breast. they seem so "real" that we have all joked and said we are getting them for all of the men we know for Christmas...they can drink their beer from them LOL joking, of course anyway, here is the babies r us link: Adiri 2 Pack Natural Nurser Ultimate Bottle - Stage 1 (0-3 Months) - Adiri - Babies "R" Us here is the brand's website: Adiri - Natural Nurser Ultimate Baby Bottle good luck my girl is just over 3 weeks and we are still learning so much!!!!
