| Help someone is trying to be me,,,,,,,, I don't know if anyone can point me in the right direction. We are refinancing our home and are ready to sign tomorrow. We just got a call,,,,, There is a lean on the house. They say I have a State loan that wasnt paid and was filed in Apirl. By the looks of it,,, it is a student loan or grant, or a work program loan. I finished school 18 years ago. Only attended one year of collage and paid that off a year later. And have not worked for almost 15 years. I am a full time stay home wife and mother. They said there is a case # and they were going to look into it in the morning. I don't know what to do. They said that my name is very common and that it may be a mistake. But if it is a case of stolen Identity I don't know how to go about it. I don't understand why it wouldn't be on my credit report. And most of all,,,,, why would they put a lean on the house with out it being on my credit report? I have a copy and there is nothing on there of any kind of State loan. I really hope it's just a mistake!!!

| I just finished a mess of something similar. It is my understanding that if you actually have a lien you should have gotten a notice of such first of all and it would definitely show up on your credit report. Hopefully since it doesn't it is actually a mistaken idenity since you have a common name. Good Luck! I know how frustrating it can be dealing with this kind of crap.

| You said that there is a reference #? Get the reference number and there should also be a phone number for the agency that has this so called lien against you. Call the number yourself and explain the situation. You will have to supply your SS number to them so they can check it out and if they can find no record of any lien have them immediately fax you a record stating that so you have it for your own reference incase you run into this again. We thought all of ours was cleared up and low and behold it appeared again and we actually had to come out of pocket to get the stupid thing off of our backs until it could be sorted through. Our money was eventually returned but what a pain in the butt. There is really no sense in worrying this is something that is kind of beyond your control at the moment so don't drive yourself crazy over it. I know that it sucks to have little surprises pop out of no where but in the end it will turn out O.K.

| I had something kinda along the same lines happen to me when I went to buy my charger. The dealership told me that there had been almost every car maker out there checking my credit about a month before I bought my charger. SO I checked it out and sure as hell there was so I called the credit agencys that had put this on my record and it was all checked at dealerships in Provedence (sp) Rhode Island. 4 different dealerships. I called the dealerships and asked about it and they said that a female came in but couldn't provide a valid drivers lisence so they refused to sell her a car. All the info that she used to try to get the loan was mine. After a bunch of phone calls and crap I finally got it all cleared up and they took it off my record. |

| You can probably have an attorney prepare an affidavit that says that you are NOT this person. Have it notarized and filed at the courthouse. That should take care of it. |

| Good morning all,,, well after only a few hours of sleep I got a call from the loan co. She had all the cort and lien docs faxed to her. Same name different SS# and different address. It was a mistake!!!! Oh my goodness I can breath easy again. They are fixing the problem as we speak. We still sign doc's today and everything should go just fine! Thanks for all of your advise!!

Kelly- were you able to find out how she got all of your information? My mom got a notice a month or so ago saying that while they were transfering her data from the credit card company to their storage site, a box of tapes was "lost". They have no idea whose information is in there, but had to notify all of their customers that they are potentially at risk. All of this identity theft stuff is crazy... and scary. | |
