| Credit Fraud/Identity Theft I was wondering if anyone else on here has had problem with unauthorized charges appearing on their cc? I used paypal to purchase 3 items in two days, and that same day, I had charges from 3 companies, and four days later a charge from yet another. I am having the hardest time getting this resolved and I'm so frustrated and mad . I've called my cc company 5 times since this has happened and each time I've been told something different. One man I spoke with was condescending and not helpful at all - he told me my best course of action was to call these companies myself and deal with it so much for your cc being secure. Yesterday I called again and the woman I spoke with told me it has been handled incorrectly from the beginning (they made it a customer service dispute), and it should have been a fraud case!! I am so mad and freaked out! The person even made an e-mail account through a free provider, and I've tried calling the company multiple time, but you never get through. My bf and I are looking to buy a house - have put in a few offers etc. and I an worried this is going to screw up my credit!! I've alerted the credit bureaus, but it doesn't seem like enough. Has anyone else been through this? How did you get it resolved? Sorry so long! |

| You need to write a letter to your credit card company disputing the charges. Include a copy of your statement and list those items in dispute. You need to call and speak with the fraud department. If you can't get through to that department, get back with customer no service and tell them to either issue you a new account number or close your account entirely. Most important is things need to be put in writing. Then you have a paper trail should something more need to be done. I'm surprised your credit card company is taking this so lightly, usually they are on top of fraud before you are even aware. Good luck.

| I did have my # changed as soon as I saw the first charges, but one is from blockbuster (I've never had a blockbuster card or account), and once your account is on file with a company they can apparently continue to charge it even if you change the number - they didn't tell me this when I called the first time and requested a new card - I found out when I got another charge from them this month . I did finally get in touch with the fraude dept. yesterday - wento to my local police station and filed a report (cc comp. told me to do this), put alerts on the 3 credit bureaus, signed up for triple access. Thank you for the tip on the letters - I will have to do that - I ve only been making calls, but I have kept notes of every call i've made. |

| My hubby has been through identity theft about 11/2 years ago. Someone managed to get my husbands info (dl #, social, address and even b-day) They went and opened credit cards with 5 different businesses. All in all it all totaled about $12,000. What made it worse is we had just bought a motorcyle the same weekend that all of this happened. We found out because we had recieved a walmart card in the mail. We thought it was just a new card on hubbys account. Went to try and activate it and he asked what the balance was and it was already maxed out! We talked to the fraud department and they told us to check our credit reports and put a fraud watch on everything. Our next tip off was that we recived a post card from the buckle say than you for buying such and such. We don't shop at the buckle. We called them and filed a police report for walmart and the buckle. In the course of 2 weeks we got 3 more bills from Gordon's jewlers, Old Navy and some phone stereo type place. It' sad that the cops that were coming out to our house knew what we were calling about and even remembered our names! There was nothing our local cops could do because all of this happend in Oklahoma City and they would forward our case. Never happened. We didn't have to pay any of the money back and only lost money in lost wages due to hubby having to take so much time off of work to take care of everything. It's a long tedious process put listen to what the credit bureaus, cc company and even the police say. Put a "freeze" on your credit with the CBs and if any line of credit is opened later down the road you have to be notified within like 10 mins for approval. Myself I would cancel the card and reapply later. It might affect you credit in the form of too many inquiries. It affected my husbands by almost 100 points. But the plus is those have started dropping off and his score has dramatically improved. |
