| My son's friend died My son's friend April died in a car accident on Sunday night. She was 10. She had just been picked up by her dad for his last weekend with her before school starts. There was a drunk driver that crossed over and hit them head on. Her dad is seriously injured and she died on impact. This has affected all of us. She was in Gavin's (my son) class, but its a small school, so all of my kids knew her. I am taking Gavin to the visitation tomorrow. I don't know how I will hold up around her family. I tear up just thinking about it. I am really struggling with not having a lot of rage right now. I come from a lot of alcoholics, and Jason's (dh) mother is drinking again (supposedly quit for a couple of years after a bad drunk driving accident) now his sister is an alcoholic, well both of them I think now, and his brother in law. They all drive drunk daily. I think that anyone who drives drunk (or "buzzed") needs to be locked up for a long time, I dont care if its their first time or not. Or perhaps we need to bring caning to this country. I am soooo sick of selfish people right now. My stomach is just so sick over this.

| That is so....sad. There are highway signs here in PA that say: DUI, you can't afford it. That is so....true in so many ways. Take Care......

| I am so sorry. How is your son taking it? That has to be a horrible thing to go through at such a young age, and for you as a parent. The local horse community here just suffered the huge loss of a local horseman- he was heading in to work at the saddle shop on his motorcycle when a man swerved over four lanes of traffic and hit him head on. Enough said. It is the hardest thing to understand- how these innocent people can loose their lives because someone else was so careless. So sad.

| How absolutely heartbreaking. I don't even know what to say- I really feel for your children, it is such a shame that they have to deal with something so hard and what that child's mother is going through... well no parent wants to even think about it. My thoughts are with y'all.

| Thank you all for your kindness. Gavin is rather numb right now. We read the news article yesterday morning, but didn't know it was her until this evening. I think he is in shock. He watched the video clip on the news a few times, and says he is "just trying to act normal" right now. He is like me and hates to show sadness for some reason. I don't deal very well with death, not that anyone does, but I have a very hard time grieving, and unfortunately he is like me that way. I keep encouraging him to talk about it,but I dont want to hound him either. I just don't want it to eat at him like it has me when I have lost people close to me.

| My daughter was killed by a drunk driver..it will be 10 years in Sept...and still feels like it was yesterday....You are all in my prayers, everyone involved will have a hard time dealing with this, trying to understand. Just know that it will easier for your son than it is for you even. Kids have a way of dealing much better than us adults. Hugs to all of you. |
