| pictures from Key Largo School starts tomorrow so for our last summer fling we went down to Key Largo this weekend and did some snorkeling. The weather was perfect and the reefs were gorgeous as usual. The hurricane is set to hit tomorrow and they were evacuating tourists by this afternoon so the timing was lucky. Just thought I'd post a few pictures. BTW, I know we have several members who live in the Keys (stay safe y'all!) but I have to say- I am always surprised by the amount of yorkies down there. Everywhere we went we saw yorkies- it was nice but it made me miss our babies. 1. Lauren and I on the boat 2. a sea turtle who let me follow him for a while- so exciting! 3. a bit of the reef 4. Christ of the Abyss statue I hate how the colors don't show up that well in pictures but it is beautiful! I guess this means summer is really over.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Such PURDY girls !!!! I just love snorkeling near sea turtles - they are such cute, graceful sea turtles - plus, I always think of the turtles in Nemo (DUDE!). That statue is really pretty underwater like that - so peaceful, eery, and haunting - cool.

| LOL! That's funny and from now on that's probably what I'll be thinking of when I see the sea turtles

| Oh, what great pictures! You're brave! Did you trailer your own boat or rent one down there?

| The statue is very neat- pretty but just a little creepy. It isn't at the best reef but Lauren hadn't seen it yet so we had to snorkel there for her. The second reef we went to was amazing though. We didn't take our boat down- we chartered a small boat so it was us and one other couple plus the couple who captain the boat so it was a small group. Here are a few more of the statue. I've seen sea turtles from the boat but that was the first time I saw one while in the water- it was so cool!

The first is in Italy and the second one is somewhere in the Caribbean I think. Okay- I just looked it up. It used to have a plaque that read: "If I take the wings of the morning And swell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there your hand will lead me and your right hand hold me fast. 1927 In memoriam 1988 Michael M. Kevorian" Apparently it is supposed to inspire underwater explorers. Here is a little information- Sculpture Christ of the Deep

| Thank you. You should definitely try to get down there at least once. Key Largo is the first Key so if you don't have a lot of driving time it's not hard to at least check that one out. The reefs we were at are part of the state park John Pennekamp. It is the very first underwater state park.

| Ah...OK, well that makes a little more sense then. I didn't realize it was put there on purpose. For some reason I just thought it was something that was there and no one knew how it got there. Duh! Geez, am I having a 'slow' Monday or what!? |
