| Financial Aid problems I should of know better than to be bragging about how easy it is to get a tuition answer loan to help with financial aid on a few thread a couple days ago..it has definitely came back around and bite me square in the *** today! I need to vent a little because it hasn't been a good night here at my house. I am still waiting to find out how much financial aid the school will give me for this up coming semester. I went to talk to them about it today and they said it could be up to 3 more weeks before I know anything...tuition is due on the 15th. If I haven't paid it by the due date, I will be charged interest even if my financial aid is still pending! So I came home and tried to apply for a sallie mae tuition answer loan to cover my cost of tuition, books, and living expenses for the semester but it declined me saying I needed a cosigner! I didn't need one last semester but I do now? So anyway, Blake told me to try him as my cosigner and it rejected him too! He then tried applying for a loan because the school isn't offering him enough money to even cover his tuition and it rejected his as well! Now we have no idea what we're going to do. No one in my family has good enough credit to cosign for me and his family is refusing to cosign for him. At this point, I'm seriously thinking about not taking classes this year to work full time just so I can pay our bills. Blake mentioned working first but he's so close to graduating, there is no way I can let him quit. I don't want to, but we can't afford it if we don't get aid from somewhere. I hate being up in the air, having no idea what to do.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I'm sorry you're having this problem. It has certaintly getting tougher to get financial aid these last years. I graduated on 2004 and I didn't have any problems getting the help that I needed. I'm sorry about this. What about taking just a couple of classes and work full-time? do they give you financial help for part-time study? |

| I don't get it. I mean the financial aid thing. I fill out a FAFSA. I get rejected bc I make too much money (even though i have a mortgage) and then a couple weeks later I get a letter from MY SCHOOL (a state college in MA) that says they gave me $XXX amount and if I register then use it to pay. I got $12,500 this year. Im going to need about $6,000 and that includes books. If I accept more than the cost of classes I can use it for books. I don't know how other states work, but this is how it works for me. Are you going to a state school? Could you take classes there and fill out a fafsa instead? I know fafsa is a pain in the butt, but usually the school never denies anyone who wants an education. Ive also had hard times in the past where I had to defer my loan payments or make smaller payments and I just paid the interest only for awhile so it did not accrue. Could you do that? I just don't get why banks and loan companies are soooo cracking down on student loans. There was an article on msn.com about this the other day. I didnt read it but I bet you can find out why this is happening and see what other options you have. I think Bank of American offers student loans also. So does Wells Fargo and other national banks. Good Luck!!

| I do go to a state school, with tuition, books and living expenses I'm going to need close to $10,000. I also do fill out the FAFSA, the first two years it awarded me enough money but last year it didn't and I'm afraid it's not going to this year either. Part of the problem is due to my parents not submitting my fafsa until the middle of june, then we were selected for "dependant verfication" which means we have to send them our tax returns, w-2, etc so they can make sure all the information is correct. So now since it's almost August 1st, I'm worried that most of the aid available has already been awarded.

| hhhmmm.. your college does not do subsidized and non-subsidized loans through the school? Thats what I got awarded somehow. Im not sure how the process works though. I think its sooo ridiculous how difficult it is to get funding to further your education. The cost of college is ridiculous, but when you can't even get the help to go thats even more ridiculous! Im so sorry you are going through this! It stinks! I hope it all goes through in time though! My fingers are crossed for you!

| In the past I have normally gotten a pell grant for $1500-$2000 and then a pretty substantail parent Plus loan. My parents do not qualify to get the plus loan so we have to go through the paper work anyway just so they can be rejected and then KSU will offer me an unsubsidized loan in place of it.
