| Dog meat off the menu at Olympics This is a news article in our local newspaper today. It seems that there are to be officially designated Olympic restaurants that have had dog meat struck from their menus. Other restaurants are being told by the Beijing tourism officials to discourage consumers from ordering dishes made from dogs. Waiters and waitresses should 'patiently' suggest other options to diners that order dog. |

| I was wondering if they would be serving dog and cat while the Olympics were going on. I thought it might cause problems. Especially if someone like me was there when somebody ordered it. That is about all I should say on the subject. I feel very strongly about China and I don't want to offend anyone.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I thought they stopped serving dog and cat meat? SICK! I'm with Tina on this one. I have nothing against most Chinese people, just the country...bothers me. A lot.

I don't get why we think one animal is more superior then another. It's all very hypocritical. ETA: This isn't directed to anyone in particular- just a general statement.

I am missing your point It makes the practice better because they are "farmed"?

Well I sort of agree and that is why I don't eat any animals. Seriously though, dogs are the only truly domesticated animal. They were bred to be "man's best friend". It is ingrained in us (or should be) to not view them as food.

the whole idea that some countries do this repulses me ...it's not just that they eat dog - there's also the 'fur trade' and I won't even get into how THAT sickens me too.... The sad part is - we have no real say in the matter - we can't even control things in our own country it seems ....we have puppy mills all over - animal abuse etc & all people ever get when caught is a slap on the wrist. I'm glad to see it's a big enough deal for the Chinese to remove dog from the menu's - maybe it'll start a wake up call over there that DOGS ARE MORE THAN FOOD & Frivoulous Decorations (Fur) | |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | My thoughts are that from the beginning, dogs have been around to help their masters: whether to help them catch food, kill mice, help in times of war, or just to keep them company. Cows, pigs, etc., have ALWAYS been around to be eaten and plow and work. Dogs are created to be companion animals. Cattle are created to be working and food animals. That's the way it's always been.
