Donating YT 500 Club Member | Anyone know anything about Chinese Cresteds? I think I just rescued one but she said she got them in a rescue situation but I dunno. He's sunburned, he's skinny and he's very very clingy. I'm going to have my vet scan him for a chip. I wouldn't be surprised if he belonged to someone He's very very sweet, but a bit rough looking. He's been in my lap for at least 4 hours, got a bath and he's got some dirt caked on and maybe has been sunburned before, I can sort scrape some of the rough stuff off his backside and there's nothing underneath. He had some fleas but I gave him a Dawn Bath. Any tips? His teeth look rough and although he's very well natured, I'm keeping him separated from Guinness. G has been vax'ed and he's fine but I worry anyways. ANy tips?

| Kathryn_V has one. You might try contacting her. Here's a link to her home page. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/members/kathryn_v.html I believe Chinese cresteds are notorius for their messed up teeth.

I rescued a Chinese Crested from a shelter in NY. It turned out to be a Chinese Crested Powder Puff. He had no hair from a skin alergy and druelled all the way home. After vet care his hair grew back, found out he had a previous broken jaw that healed. He was an alfa male but was very much loved by myself and family. We sympathized with him for what ever trauma he was put under. Muffet lived the good life for about 5 years until I finally had him put to sleep in my arms as he was suffering from congestive heart failure. As with all rescues, a good vet exam is in order to try and uncover some of the abuse and remedy. | |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I have some. I got some before, while he was in my lap looking all crusty on the way home. I got a few after a bath but he's not loving the camera much. I will get some tomorrow, posted I PROMISE!

I'm so glad he got such great care. I called the vet on my way home to ask what I could put on his sunburn, he said aloe was fine. I'm going to try that and then look up types of lotion for his skin. He does need some lube in some places. I really hope he's not been abused, I don't think he has, he watches EVERYONE like he's a person, it's realyl interesting to watch LOL

| Anxious to hear the outcome of his chip scan. I am in a rescue group that fostered a chinese crested and he was precious. Aloe is very good for his sunburn and I think they usually wear a shirt when outside. They are a lovely breed of dog and hope the bath helped with the fleas. Warmly, Deborah

| That's so great of you to rescue a Crested! When I was looking for a new puppy, it was a toss up between a Yorkie and a Crested. I obviously went with a Yorkie, but I still have a soft spot for Cresteds. Regarding his teeth looking rough, that is a common breed characteristic of the hairless variety. They are prone to bad teeth. Goes along with the gene that causes them to be hairless apparently. The powderpuff cresteds have better teeth. Can't wait to see pictures! |
