| Has anyone worked with faux glaze? I'm needing to paint my front room soon and I'm really liking the tuscan look using faux finish glaze. I'm wondering how hard it is to do this, I really don't want to take on more than I'm capable |

| To get the Tuscan look, will you be ragging it? I used my base color and then ragged it with 2 complimentary colors, for example if you use a gold base then you could use a rust and a cayenne pepper color. The trick is to blend it well. Good Luck!

| I've used faux glazes. I did the Ralph Lauren denim blue jean look on my boys bedroom walls and a faux leather in the living room(and a couple accent walls here and there). It's not so bad but it's a one time thing. You can't really go over it because then it darkens and smudges so have all your equipment, rags, tools, etc. within hands reach. I've been very happy with how they turned out. A couple of times I did end up repainting and starting from scratch over a section because it dried too fast or didn't turn out how I wanted. If I get ambitious enough I'll post a pic.

| Funny you posted this because I am going to cover mine up on Sat. My DIL did it several years ago and I loved it then but need to change it. I hope, with a primier, is covers well. Good luck. It is really a nice look. She used an old cotton undershirt. It came out really well. Post pictures when your done. I guess we'll both be painting this weekend. Can't wait for Mon so it will be finished. |

| Here's a few of the techniques I've tried. Please post the tuscan look and what you use if you do it. It's one of my favorite looks but I'm never sure what colors to use. 1. Denim 2. Leather 3. Stripes with stars

| Thanks for the comments! I would love to see more pics if anyone has them! After researching techniques...Here is what I'm thinkin of doing. Looks like a lot of work but I love the finished look. What do you think? Tuscan Accents Decorative Painting Technique | Valspar at Lowes.com |

Since you have some experience here...I have one red wall in my kitchen, i'd like to make it look a bit "old". Do you think I could wipe on a brown glaze to go in the cracks of the texture and it would get that antique like look?

| If you have some of the red paint left, I'd do a test board first. I'm just a little worried that it might turn out "muddy" looking. I tried doing an antique glaze over an off white and it just looked dirty. A lot of the glazes are really pigmented, very little of the color underneath seems to show through. Also, depending on what type of paint the red was, you don't want to have it pull the paint off the wall when you wipe off some.

| I just checked and if you go to Valspar.com you can watch videos of all of the faux techniques. You can also play with the colors. And, yes, practice first.

| I'm finally done with the kitchen walls! Here is a pic of one of the walls for anyone interested. I used tuscan accents paint by valspar. I really had fun doing this, it was very simple too and I'm very pleased with the look, it's exactly what I had imagined. |

| We did this in our bathroom. Used a brush with a tapping method. It looked good when it was finished, but geez did it ever wear our arms out! Our bathroom is kind of big, and it took us about a week of doing it an hour or so a night to finish. I will NEVER try to do that to a big room again. |

I did the glaze part to my entire large kitchen (3 walls) in about 3 hours with a brush and that was all by myself. I used an x pattern all over. I am going to do it to my bedroom next. I love the warmth it brings to the room Last edited by chloeandj; 07-28-2008 at 07:06 PM.
