| Thieves on my Front Porch So I have recently moved and two of my wonderful possessions were these matching Lion's Head Urns that were heavy cast iron and very very old, and amazingly patina'd (sp?). I found them about 6 years ago with my best friend at a lovely nursery down in LA. I paid $485 each for them and it was a lot but I knew that I would love them and never tire of looking at them. They must weigh 75 lbs each easily if not more. When I moved, I decided to place the on my front porch because I have no backyard at my new place and considering how large they were....thought they would be safe. Well this passed weekend someone came up onto my porch and stole them from me. I'm just kicking myself for not chaining them down but I thought that would have looked so bad....stupid, stupid, stupid! Now, I realize that these are material items and can be replaced with something similar and all that but I seriously feel violated. I know I will never get them back. Do you think I should file a police report or would that be a complete waste of time? I want to turn it in to my Homeowner's but I don't even have pics of them and I'm not sure I still have the receipt. Any suggestions? Has anything similar happened to any of you?....did your Homeowner's Policy still cover the theft? I'm just absolutely sick just thinking about it.......

| Call your insurance agent, and also trrrrrry to find the receipt. They might take a notarized letter from your friend or the nursery owner if you can remember the name of it. And, yes, I've had items stolen from my yard. Nothing that was that valuable, but you still feel victimized...why can't people honor other people's property and keep their sticky fingers off??!! |

| I would def file a report. What if someone spots them on someone else's property? I wonder if they thought it was made of copper. People are stealing copper cables from everywhere to cash in!! |

| I would file a police report since they were so expensive. People are very daring and I dont put anything of value in my front yard anymore. A couple of yrs ago I bought a christmas train holiday light decor in my front yard and a week later someone stole it so I learned the hard way also

| I'm so sorry someone did this.....it's getting so bad around here with people scrapping things....I would call all the scrap (recycling) yards and let them know that your missing these things and they are stolen, there is a good chance they will be scrapped....... People here are tearing the gutters and siding right off the homes that people are living in!...they stole the man hole covers....they are going into buildings and cutting out the copper plumbing...they are even waiting in parking lots and waiting til you go in the store and they are cutting off the catalytic converter connected to the muffler.....if it's metal it will be stolen......

I'm sorry about your urns - that would really burn me up too I'd def report this to the HOA and maybe ask them to step up security in your neighborhood if they can - AND report it to the police - they need to know there are thugs in your hood too ... filing a police report MAY be the way to go if they keep checking pawn shops in your area - check ebay and craigslist too - you may end up seeing them for sale | |

| Yes, definately file a police report. The police might patrol more around your area and they would have clues to go on if there are more thefts in the area.

| I would definitely file a police report. That's really sad about your urns. They sound very nice.

| I'm so sorry Paulette!!! If I were you I would make a report... and at least SLOPD could patrol your area a little more than they usually do. We don't live in a high crime area, so I can see why you'd think that no one would be stupid enough to snatch them off your porch! Can you call the nursery and see if they have any for sale? Maybe they could take a picture of them for you?

Yes, I have phoned the nursery and they are sending pics of ones that they have but none with the lions heads on them..... A guy at my gym said this about the thieves & it made me chuckle....."May the fleas of a thousand camels find the thieve's crotch a mecca." Ha!

Thieves are the worst! I sure hope that some how, some way you cand find some justice. My boyfriend uses a dremel tool to put his initals on everything! At first I thought it was a bit overboard, but now I know if anyone takes his stuff he can prove its his! You shouldn't have to chain things down at your house! Thats insane! It makes me almost as mad as watching Animal Cops!
