| Lyrica, your thoughts on it please! ;) My pain management doc wants me to start taking Lyrica 200mg 3 x daily, along w/ my other pain and sleep meds I have taken for years. Has anyone taken Lyrica? (initially used in fibromyalgia patients) Did you have any bad side effects from it? Drowsiness, dizziness, fast heartrate, imsomnia or anything not for the better? I hate starting new meds and not knowing a lot about them. Especially with small children I like to know if there is a strong possibility of being really out of it and tired the next day. I always fear that things will make me super sleepy when I need to be a full time Mom to 3 skin kids and 2 furbutts! I always research them, but prefer to hear "real" stories. Not just the packaging info, lol! Any info would be greatly appreciated! TIA |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I haven't taken it, so I don't have any advice there. I'm sorry you're in pain; as a nurse, pain management always really pulled at my heart bc I just hate seeing people in physical pain when there are so many options out there (and so many docs who aren't good at pain mgmt.). The only thing that helps me when I'm starting a new med is I read the *actual* prescribing information - the stuff that's meant for the docs from the drug's website. Do you read that? I often find it reassuring...or at least way more informative than the patient education (which is minimal). At least then you know the actual % of different side effects and at what doses they occur etcetera. So, I don't know if that'd help you or not - but just thought I'd throw it out there since it helps me.

| Ann, I have 3 diff years of the Springhouse Nursing Edition drug books and I look a lot of stuff on Drugs.com, which I think has a lot of good info....consumer info, advanced info, physician info etc. Also I Google whatever they mention to me and learn what I can. I am not one to jump right up and start something I don't know about. Having a son who is Bipolar w/ultra rapid cycling/ADHD/ODD I have learned you can never be too careful when starting something new. The med go round is not a fun ride I know what you mean about good and bad pain man. docs. I unfortunately learned from personal exp Their are some whack jobs out there thats for sure. Due to insurance changes I am just 3 mos into a new doc/hospital and he is stopping some things and wanting to start others. I am just not sure if I want to go his route. I not sure if him and I "click" with the whole doctor/patient thing, lol! I loved my old doc, he was so down to earth and didn't act like he was on another level than I was. Maybe I can just ask DH politely to change back to his other job who had the "good" insurance??? lol! He would really go for that! |

| I have fibromyalgia and they put me on Cymbalta it took awhile like over a month but it has helped and I'm not in so much pain. My only problem is that my system builds up an immunity to meds after being on them. Now my next one would be that Lyrica but I'm not heard anything pro or cons about it. So not much info to give you. I personally try the supplements to do as much as I can. These meds anymore is so bad and they get pulled off the market. Its really scarey to think how much symptoms we have now and sure don't need more problems with our meds. I hope everything works out for you. I know having children would be harder. I lay down when I need to sleep and you can do that when you have children. Even if they are really good ones. Let me know how it goes if you do go on that one. Cymbalta is for depression but they started finding out it was working on diabetics and fibromyalgia but it took longer to work them those patients.

| I have never heard of Lyrica. My neurologist has me on Neurotin 200 mg. 3 times a day, plus Ultram ER once a day. My meds are helping some, but I still hurt, 24/7. Good luck with your pain meds. Being in pain isn't much fun, it affects everything you do -- unless you have been there done that, it is really hard to understand. |

Betty'sMom- Yes I read that about the weight gain too Thats the last thing I need, lol! I need something that causes weight loss Wonder what that is??? Oh ya, diet and exercise But what fun is that, lol! Yoyo27- I took Cymbalta a couple of years ago. My internalist put me on it for depression/help with pain. It worked for me but as you said I grew a tolerence for it. Thanks everyone for your responses. I am starting it tonight DH is not working tomorrow so there will be help with the kiddos. Thats my main concern is starting something and it having bad effects on me and being alone with my kids. I would never forgive myself if something happened to them, they are my world I will post an update tomorrow for those interested. | |
