| Dave Ramsey? Has anyone done his program? How did you like it? What was the hardest thing for you to do? I came across his program yesterday and it makes a lot of sense. Once I get a job (hopefully soon!), I'm going to start it. My goal is to have ALL my debts paid off by 30 (6.5 yrs), and own a house by age 35. The hardest debt to pay off will be all the student loans (btwn 30,000-50,000) that I very stupidly took out thinking I NEEDED them.. but I go enough grants that I didn't need it to pay my tuition, I used them for 'extra' things that I really could have done without. But I was young and stupid and was never taught about how to handle money.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Never saw his stuff. But I think if you set yourself a budget and a plan for your payoff and savings you will do well. It's very hard when it's time to get out of debt but if you put your mind to it you can do it. By the way my sil has $120k in student loans...does that make you feel a bit better ;0)

| If you are interested in checking out his stuff its Real Debt Help - Get out of debt with Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover Plan. I don't have his book yet, I'm going to borrow it from the library. But he basically says save up a $1,000 emergency fund first. Then make a list of all your debts from smallest to largest and each month pay the payment for each one and ANY extra money you have goes toward the smallest one. Once that one is paid off, you do the same thing but work on the next smallest one. You also have to make a budget and stick to it, no buying extra things you don't really need.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Ok I have to tell you that works. I have done it in the past. I think I need a total of two more years to be debt free other than my mortgage. Smart move to borrow the book for Free in the library. I used so splurge on books but then I was like what am I going to do with all this stuff after because I essentially read a book a day. I got smart and started hitting the library. You can put a hold on books you want and when they come in you get notified. That is what I do now. I hardly ever have to wait for new releases. Then at the end of the year I make a little donation to the library for their generosity. We all win ...I get to indulge and read like a mad woman, I get to give back and save waste and I get a tax deduction.
