| Job Hunting tomorrow.. NOT looking forward to it, but considering I had to break my piggy bank and roll coins to make my car payment this month I figure its past time to be looking! The thing is that this is a pretty small town and with the economy, no one is really hiring. Plus minimum wage is going up here sometime in July so businesses that have hourly employees are really trying to cut back. My goal is to get one full time job, and a part time one.. work my behind off and move outta here the week btwn Christmas and New Years. I figure if I get a job making $8 an hour (which will be hard in this town) and work 52 hrs a week, I will have enough to pay my current bills and put enough away each month to have a decent amount to move in December. I just filled out an online application for Kmart-not really what i pictured myself doing after college, but they are hiring and i'm desperate.. but the earliest interview date they had was 7/10! Would it be rude for me to call mgnt tomorrow and see if possibly I could get an earlier interview date? The only other things I found open was a case order filling position for Walmart DC, a parttime business assistant for a homecare office, a public works secretary, receptionist for an acct. firm, and a job at a hotel. In college I choose to nanny which paid way more than most jobs and was great because I had the flexibility to work around my college classes.. but now its backfiring on me! I should have gotten a job related to my degree!

| Best of luck to you on your job search. Personally... I think you should call and not ask for an earlier interview outright but just let the Hiring person know that filled out an application and eager for the interview. ... You know call and say.... Hi, Ms. Smith, this is Joe Blow and I filled out an on-line application yesterday. I wanted to let you know that I am very eager to interview for this position as I have heard great things about working for your company. I know with my ability to catch on quickly, reliability, and people skills that I would be an asset to the company. When do you think I could come in for an interview?

| I agree with Twalla. It doesn't hurt to call and find out, right? The worst they can say is the earliest interview time is 7/10! Good luck! I HATE job hunting.

I Love Thor Donating Member | Good luck. It would not be rude. It might feel rude but it proves you are a go getter, and you should call follow up and ask to be seen earlier. Whats the worst that can happen! good luck, be confident, and don't settle for any ol thing. What about a town close to yours...? |

| For the minimum wage jobs you might want to leave the college degree off your application. After my husband graduated from college (years ago) he couldn't even get a job flipping burgers because he was "overqualified" and they knew he would leave as soon as he got a better offer. He heard this over and over. Just an idea.

| Did you try going to an employment agency where they look for jobs for you? That route might benefit you seeing as you have your degree already. |

| Thanks for the advice everyone. The only big town close to us is Savannah which is roughly an hour away. They have more jobs available, but really don't pay much more per hour and with the way gas prices are now I'd probably end up losing money! And I HATE driving on the interstate, its scares the crap outta me.

| What is your degree in? I think you should keep searching for jobs in your degree field! I mean take something and definately keep your degree off your resume/applications for now if its a job that you are overqualified for. But always keep looking!
