| My husband has chronic leukemia My husband was just diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. The doctor is putting him on a pill called Gleevec, which is supposed to kill the cancer cells. I hope and pray that this medicine works. He is starting the pills today. The doctor seems to think that this will take care of it. He said that hubby doesn't need chemo. I'm scared because my mother's started out with chronic then went to acute.I know they have come along way in meds and treatments since my mom passed 10 years ago, but can't help worrying. Does anyone know anything about this medicine or had any experiences with it? Just curious.

My furkids Donating Member | I don't know anything about that med but, want to say my prayers are with you. My brother was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia about 6 yrs ago. There is no cure for it. 20 yrs ago he would have died from it but, today, they can treat it. He had to have chemo. The first time he had it he was only in remission for 8 months. The second round, they used a stronger chemo and (knock on wood) THANK GOD! it has been 2 yrs and still in remission. I researched alot on the internet...not too much...sometimes a little bit of knowledge can be a bad thing. My heart goes out to you and your husband. Brenda

| I thought you should look at this article....since the recent passing of my father I have since learned that when it comes to our health we have to be very proactive in searching out all the studies and info we can on our treatment including medications, and then make the best decision we can with all that we can learn....sometimes one doctor does not have all the right answers, we have to go to many sources....I don't want to scare you but if the info is out there then you need to know all you can....I would want to know before not after.... Jefferson scientists show 'miracle' cancer drug Gleevec can be toxic to the heart (press release) I hope this will help, it's just one article but it does need to be addressed for your husbands health....I will be thinking nothing but good thoughts for you both....

| I do not know of the medicine your husband is on and I prayer that he finds relief from it. I can say that I have an illness that has no cure. I was diagnosed over 10 years ago and since then I have been on medications and regular doctor visits. Medicine has come a long way, not just the medications but the technology and knowledge. Please keep the faith. A positive outlook is in itself a major "medication". I wish you the best of luck on this journey you both will be on.

| I will keep your husband and your family in my prayers. My son also has an uncurable disease and he has to take oral chemo every week for the rest of his life.
