| Fake degrees online Did you all know that there are people paying to get their fake degrees over the internet? I know I'm a little naive, but this was a shocker to me. One of my bf's friends just did this- his bachelors and his masters. He swears to my bf it's real, but my sister and I did some sluething and discovered this "school" is completely fake! And, get this, he got a $5,000 bonus from work for completing his degrees!! I'm not sure how other sites work, but he paid a couple hundred dollars and got a diploma, transcripts, a certificate of merit "for good grades" (can you believe that?!), a certificate saying he's now a member of some professional organization that has to do with his "major", and some other stuff I can't remember. My boyfriend doubted him, but there was so much stuff that his friend got that he almost believed him for a second. It says the school is accredited by an organization. We "googled" this organization and it was supposedly established in 1989 (because soooo many people were getting degrees online 16 years ago!) and has only accredited this one certain school. There are a few "candidate school" that are supposedly anxiously awaiting their approval for accreditation. The company he works for is part of a national company, so I'm really suprised that he's able to get away with this. I spent 4 years in college. This doesn't bother me for the fact that I put in all that effort and people can just plunk down a couple hundred dollars and be done. I actually really enjoyed the learning aspect of college (I know- I'm a nerd!) and I'm proud that my hard work paid off. However, I am a little bitter about the fact that I have to send hundreds of dollars each month to loan agencies to pay off my thousands and thousands of dollars in debt and people who purchase these degrees just have to pay once. So, like I said, I'm a little naive, but this still amazes me. Has anyone else heard of this before? |
