Default Going to the Virgin Islands!

Anybody been there? We're going to St. Croix next month for my wife's stepson's wedding. They are literally going to get married, then hop on their own yacht for a one-year cruise. I have no idea how they can afford it, but if I wasn't prone to seasickness I'd be jealous as heck.

I remember one time seeing a YTer from the Virgin Islands. Anybody remember who that was and where they lived? I might need a Yorkie fix, because the three boys have to stay home this time.

I have been there. A friend had a yacht there, and we sailed around for a week. it was fabulous.

My favorite place was the Soggy Dollar Bar. I forget what island it was on. They didn't have a dock, so you have to stuff all your money in your bathing suit and swim to shore....(you could take the dinghy, but that wouldn't be the same).

Eating out is pretty expensive, but my friends had expensive taste. I think there are some reasonable options.

I never did go to the USVI, unfortunately.

I am a former sailor, and have a lot of friends who have done the round-the-world cruise thing. There was a time when I really wanted to do it also, but now I think I would go a little crazy confined to a 50 foot (at best) sailboat.

I hope you have a wonderful time!

A sailor? That's very cool. The ocean and I don't get along

I never thought their adventure would happen. I figured it was one of those dreams that everyone has that never quite comes together. Neither one had much sailing experience two years ago when they started making plans. They studied, left Alaska for some kind of course where they got certification to sail solo. They bought a boat, though I can't remember what size. And now it looks like they're going through with it. To be honest, I won't believe it till I see it -- and that gives me a great excuse to go to the Virgin Islands!

Wish I could remember who that member is, cause I definitely remember someone!!!! I've not been to St. Croix but have been to St. Lucia. LOVED everything about it.

I, too, have major motion sickness. In fact, I take prescription medication for flying, bus/train travel and I generally avoid boats of all kinds on all bodies of water if I can help it!!!!!!

I am an insurance adjuster and actually got a hurricane claim on St. Thomas several years ago! We took about 45 minutes to work the claim and stayed for 4 days! LOVED it and want to go back someday! It was great and all it cost us was our room and food as the insurance company paid for our airline tickets...hubby is an adjuster too! We snorkled half a day our last day there and it was wonderful! Here are a few pics of our time there! Hope you have fun...and yeah, lots of pics please!

Ha ha. I get confused with all the inlaws and step inlaws. No, this is my wife's stepson from a previous marriage. And it makes it worse because he calls me "dad."

You guys will never know how disappointed I am not to be able to go. I've wanted to do a YT meetup since I've been here. Hopefully it will be such a raging success that we'll do it again soon.

My dog, she looks at me sometimes with that look, and I think maybe deep down inside she must know exactly how I feel. But then maybe she just wants the food off my plate.

I made it to Puerto Rico and St. Thomas (where I got to ride Tom Jones - story includes a borrowed car, an islander, a donkey, a mountaintop, a camera and $5.00). I have a friend that lives on St. John. It's so beautiful there. Have a safe trip, lot of fun and take bunches of pics!
