| I heard about those when they first came out, and I am very interested! How do you like it? Is it like reading a real book? I haven't seen on in person yet. |

Not dense Yes, you download books from the web to the device and you use it as you would a paperback...In fact, it's the size of a paperback..

| You can take it everywhere with you. It's great for reading on the plane. It's completely wireless and the wireless is free! You can download books from Amazon.com and they are less than the paper version. There are also tons of free e-book sites. The only time it needs to be plugged in is to charge it.

| How cool. My daughter would love that. I was just thinking it would make a great end of the year gift (she just got accepted into the National Junior Honor Society) but at $400 I'm not too sure. It looks like there are other readers too- Amazon.com: e-book reader: Electronics What made you choose the Amazon Kindle? I seriously know nothing about these.

I know the price seems high, however at 3-7 dollar savings off buying hardback/paperback books it will pay for itself for me in no time. Also, I have downloaded 20 + classics (Wuthering Heights, To Kill a Mocking Bird, just to name a couple) at no cost. As with anything I recommend everyone read the forum boards, etc. before making a decision but for me it's love!

| The reason why I am interested is because it is not like a back-lit computer screen.....As was mentioned above, it is like reading a real paper page. And the battery only operates when you turn the page..... I heard an interview with the originator on NPR--All Things Considered, and I was just fascinated by it. Amazon was sold out for several months, so it's good to know they are available now. |

Thanks for the information. My daughter is 13 and an avid reader and reads at an adult level so no illustrations but... the cost will probably be the deal breaker for now. I wont bother with the less expensive ones though- I'll just wait a bit and hope the cost comes down. That is a really cool product though! eta- now that I reconsider the idea of FREE classics... That is really fantastic!
